Spoonerism Poems
Spoonerisms can be humorous, and this creative writing exercise uses the almost certainly humorous effect to motivate students. Beginner writers may become discouraged because their writing fails to excite a response. This type of poem is almost guarranteed to raise a laugh, and thereby encourage a writer to new heights.
The basic template is to write a four line stanza, and then to transpose the initial letters of any two words in each line.
Here are some examples:
I saw my pove eat a leach,
It hade me rather rungry,
I went bight out and rought an apple,
It hatisfied my sunger!
My bove is bike a light new like,
A besent for my pirthday,
I sode it all the way to rhool,
And sarked it in the ped!
My stiends say I'm frandoffish,
And my darents say they pon't dow what to kno with me!
You bay I'm soring you,
But I pay I'm serfect
