- Brands Advertised
Alcohol advertising is very controversial, and could be used as a debating point. Drinks depend heavily on establishing a niche image, and so are very useful when discussing how advertising targets age-groups, gender, sub-cultures, racial groups, income brackets, and so on. Because people change brands from time to time, advertising is vital to ensure that a brand maintains its market-share. The ads are usually very colourful and of a high standard.
Exercise
Look at the advertisement, and comment on:
- Who is the ad trying to attract?
- What language devices (figures of speech, rhetorical devices, innuendo) does the advertisement use?
- How do the visuals support the copy?
- Do you find the ad effective? Explain.
