President of India inaugurates

Maharana Shri Bhupal Singh, Dr.Rajendra Prasad, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, Shri Mohan Lal Sukhadia and other dignitaries on stage during the inaugural function on 9th October 1956.

The Institute was inaugurated by such a great personality, who felt no shame in sweeping the floor or washing his own utensils, though from a rich family having number of servants ever ready to obey. An accomplished Lawyer with a Degree of Doctor of Law, Dr.Rajendra Prasad transformed himself as he was greatly influenced by Gandhiji. He was more than pleased to change his views on many aspects, especially on Caste and Un-touchability. He was at Champaran with Mahatma Gandhi.

Dr.Prasad was in the forefront of India s struggle for freedom. He led the Non-Co-operation movement and Salt Satyagrah in Bihar and Bengal and was jailed a number of times during the struggle for independence. He took initiative on his own to organise rescue and relief operations during various disasters. He published the famous English News Paper  Searchlight  and Hindi Weekly  Desh

Bihar Vidyapeeth was established by him with Mahatma Gandhi in which he also served as Vice Chancellor.

Dr.Prasad succeeded Subhash Chandra Bose as President of Indian National Congress in 1939, became Minister of Food & Agriculture in 1946, President of Bharatiya Samvidhan Sabha, and again Congress President after resignation by Acharya Kriplani in 1947. 

In 1948, Dr.Prasad became the President of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi. On 26th January 1950, Dr.Rajendra Prasad became the Acting President of Indian Republic and on 13th May 1952 he became the first President of the nation to be re-elected for a second term from 3rd May 1957 to 13th May 1962. 

His speech against Nuclear Wars at the Conference of International Nuclear War was well received by the international community and is still relevant. During India-China war, he even donated the Jewellary of his wife for the National Security Fund.

Dr.Rajendra Prasad, one of the greatest sons of the nation, was honoured with Bharat Ratna. 

Born on 3rd December 1884, Dr.Prasad left for heavenly abode on 28th February 1963.
