Foundation Stone
Beginning to write an impressive and fresh
chapter in the history of Railways.
The Foundation Stone of the Institute was
laid by His Highness Maharajadhiraj Maharana Shri Bhupal Singhji Bahadur,
GCSI, KCIE, Maharana Udaipur, the Maharaj Pramukh of Rajasthan, on 25th March 1955.
In the picture, Maharana Shri Bhupal Singhji is seen laying the Foundation Stone.
The legendary Maharana Pratap of Mewar(1572-1597),
the only Indian ruler, who dared to fight against the might of Mughal Emperor Akbar.
His battle in Haldighati, around 40 kms away from Udaipur with an army mostly consisting of local tribes (Bheels) is written in golden letters in the History of India as also that of Chetak, his horse, which stood by the Maharana till the last drop of it s blood in the battle field with extra ordinary loyalty and bravery.
Maharana Shri Bhupal Singh of Mewar(1930-1955), who laid the Foundation Stone of the Institute, was a member of the same royal dynasty (oldest living royal dynasty in the world) as that of Maharana Pratap.
Maharana Shri Bhupal Singh was the first Indian Ruler of erstwhile Princely States to join the Indian Union when the nation became independent, paving the way for others to follow.
