Demand for a Rail Link
culminated in the setting up of Railway Training School at Udaipur

The first General Elections took place in 1952. Freedom Fighter and Member of the Constituent Assembly, Master Balwant Singh Mehta won the seat from Udaipur. This was the time when Lal Bahadur Shastri took upon as the Union Railway Minister. It was during the year 1953-54.

During one of the casual conversations with Shastriji, when Master Mehta asked him for a linkage between Udaipur and Ahmedabad via Train, Shastriji smiled and said the Ministry was looking forward to setting up of a Training Institute, which would work to refine the railway officials.

He asked Master Mehta whether he would like to propose Udaipur for such an Institute of high repute. It was sure for an answer and Master Mehta said that Udaipurites will be more than happy to have it.

Within a few days, a High Powered Committee visited the City of Lakes and reported in favour of the aptness of the place for setting up of such an Institution.

Shastriji consented and thus Mehta's demand for a train culminated into an Institute of high repute.
