EPOCHS
Within each Age on the retrograde wheel of twelve Ages is a wheel of thirteen Eras (the sign
of the Age being doubled). And further sub-dividing, within each Era are thirteen Epochs,
each beginning and ending with the same sign, and each lasting almost thirteen years.
Thus in the Scorpio Era (1547-1712 A.D.) the first and last Epochs are both Scorpio. In be-
tween, we might note a particular series of Epochs which follow a pattern of "Revolution,
Usurpation, Restoration".
The revolution took place in the Epoch of iconoclastic Geminii (1636-49) in the form of the
English Civil War, including the beheading of the English king, Charles I. The usurpation was
conducted by the leader of the victorius rebels, Oliver Cromwell, in the Cancer Epoch (1649 to
1661). And the Restoration was appropriately in the Leo Epoch (1661-74).
Similarly the nexr Era, Sagittarius (1712-1878) began and ended with an Epoch of Sagittarius.
In between, there was the French Revolutiion in the Geminii Epoch (1789-1802) followed by
Napolean's usurpation in the Cancer Epoch (1802-14) and the Restoration in Leo (1814-27).
The Capricorn Era (from 1878 to potentially 2044) started with a Capricorn Epoch and is
scheduled to end with another. In between, there has been the Chinese Communist Revolution
in the Geminii Epoch (1942-55) followed by Mao's usurpation, which culminated in his "Cultural
Revolution", in the Cancer Epoch (1955-68) and the restoration of relatively conservative
values under Chou En Lai, in the Leo Epoch (1968-80).
So all three consecutive Eras show the same serial pattern of Epochs:
Geminii Revolution
Cancer Usurpation
Leo Restoration
Now to fine-tune our wheels of history, we might use two events: the stock market crash of 1929
and the turn-around in the fortunes of war in World War II, 1942.
The "Roaring Twenties" were an Epoch of energetic, non-stop Aries, a time which saw tremendous
appreciation in stock prices. That Epoch apparently came to an end in September of 1929. The
next Era was of the sign Taurus (unity and the Fall from unity). Along with the Taurean theme
of reclaiming native territory (regaining wholeness) which was a principle reason given by the
Germans for their military aggression in starting WW II, the theme of unity is cogently ex-
pressed in their slogan, "One nation, one people, one leader". ("Ein Reich, ein Volk, ein
Fuhrer"). And the theme of the fall was expressed in the stock-market crash on Wall Street in
the first month, it seems, of the new Taurus Epoch (October 1929).
The German Revanchism (reclaiming of native territory) was so successful at first that they
over-reached themselves and invaded Russia and North Africa. Then their fortunes were sud-
denly reversed when the Taurus Era ended, apparently in June of 1942. At El Alamein in North
Africa (October) and Stalingrad in Russia (November) the Allied counter-offensive began, which
would sweep all the way to Berlin.
But the first major Allied counter-offensive of the war occured even earlier in the new Geminii
Epoch, in the Pacific Theater. There, American amphibious forces launched the turning-point
battle of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands in August of 1942. Thus the entire war changed
course as soon as the sign of the time changed.
