What is a Zodiacal Portrait (ZP)? Is it something you paint? Yes and No. The Planets and other Zodiacal influences created your ZP at the time you were born, but we cannot see the painting until we do some calculations. Every person that's ever been born has had a ZP.
There are basically an infinite number of ways to create your own Portrait that you can see. You can choose to have only one Planet's position and you've already created a Portrait. When we go to a museum, we rarely see a speck on an otherwise blank canvas. That speck, although tiny, does mitigate the personality of the artwork somewhat, although not enough to maintain interest. Don't you want to add some colors, and shapes to make it more of a rapture?
Ultimately, you decide the variables of what to paint on your canvas. Most people without much knowledge of astrology will simply use the positions of the Sun, the Moon, the planets between Mercury and Pluto, the Rising Sign, the Midheaven, and be finished. That is fine. However in comparison, this is like drawing a stick figure with a smile and having it waving toward the audience. Don't you want something with more depth, more character, more definition?
There are several rules you must adhere to:
Choose your canvas in which to paint your ZP, i.e. a webpage, a REAL canvas with REAL paint, chalk on a chalkboard, ink on a piece of paper, etc.
Have software to do your computations (many are free online)
You must use two places past the decimal point (i.e. 4.55)
You must list the sign so as not to confuse the viewer (i.e. 4.55 Gemini)
You must list the influence you are talking about (i.e. 4.55 Gemini Mars)
Specify "MY" before your exact planetary positions so that people will know that it's not a current transit by that planet
You must strive for accuracy -- do not guess. Most astrological software rounds to the second decimal point (this is fine)

When we look at a portrait, some features will stand out above others. The same applies here. If any of the above is on the exact same degree, for example 4.55 Gem Mars and 4.55 Gem (Arabic Part of) Worldliness, then make these two stand out with extra emphasis from all your other points, by CAPITALIZING THEM, italicizing them, Non-bolding them (this document is in bold by default), adding some symbols before or after the point of emphasis, changing the color of the font, etc. I choose to underscore mine.
I have the colors of each sign's font different than the others, to give each sign some diversity, although you may find it tedious to choose 12 different fonts, then again you may decide to use more than 12. I decided to have header rules separating each sign, you may decide not to do this, or you may decide to do it on your points of emphasis, or by house cusp.
You may decide to have your degrees listed by all numerological order, regardless of sign, for example:
1.28 PIS - 10th House Cusp 1.42 LEO - Mars/Nessus Midpoint 1.46 LIB - Mercury Position of Sedna Persona 1.58 ARI - (Arabic Part of) Abundance
and then skip a line and continue with numerological order at 2 degrees, and then when done, continue with 3 degrees, etc.
You may decide to list by section first, i.e. listing your antiscia, skipping a line, listing your Pluto Harmonics, skipping a line, listing your Square positions of all planets, etc. Many different ways you can do it.
There are many rewards in compiling your ZP:
Using your creativity in a way in which you are in control
Learning about influences that you were born with, as well as those that are on the way
Sharing your artwork with the world
Provides a curiosity for others to engage in the same type of creative outlet as yourself
