The institution

In August 1958, the College opened its doors to its first students under the Commission for Technical and Vocational Training of Northern Rhodesia which was the forerunner to the Department of Technical Education and Vocational Training (DTEVT). It was then called Northern Technical College (NORTEC). When later on the premises for NORTEC shifted to the Ndola, it became known as the Zambia Institute of Technology (ZIT). When ZIT became the Copperbelt University, the City Campus as the College was known was taken over by the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM) to cater for Man Power Development (MPD). In 1993,the College reverted to government again, Zambia Institute of Business Studies and Industrial Practice (ZIBSIP).
