The snow was falling lightly today, Hermione noticed. When she was little, her dad would bring her to the pond and they’d ice skate. She began to sob lightly, biting her lip until it began to bleed, remembering a time when the man in her life always cared. “Hermione?” She heard her name being called and quickly wiped the blood. She turned around to find Draco Malfoy standing in the Great Hall. “Yes?” she asked, turning around to look out the window.
He walked up next to her. “Hermione, do you have the Potions homework?” He asked, eyeing the kids that were staring at him. “Don’t you have it?” She asked, looking at him, slightly. “If I had it, why would I ask you?” He said, rubbing his temples. “Snape forgot to give me mine… and I don’t have time to ask him.” He said, watching Hermione tie her shoes. She began to wobble slightly and suddenly fell to the ground. “What the--?” was all Draco had to say before Hermione getting back up, biting her lip once more and feeling blood come from her hand.
She looked at it and noticed a huge gash between her thumb and fore finger, from her Care Of Magical Creatures book. Draco took out his wand and whispered, “Arieno Perio”, while making a slight swishing motion. “Thanks,” she muttered. Looking at him, watching those eyes that used to fill with hatred everytime they looked into hers. There was an awkward pause as Hermione realized she was staring at him. “Err… have you been taking that study potion, again?” Draco asked, already knowing the answer. “The one that makes you sleepy at all times, except when a book is open?” He asked, his tone rising. “Noooooo –aaah.” She mumbled with a yawn. "What were you thinking?!" Draco said, a little too loud. “You know that is against the rules!” He said, slightly worried.
Hermione looked at him tiredly, "Ugh. I can't believe you." She said, looking into his eyes once more. He looked puzzled. “Why do you even care about me? You used to hate me. Make fun of me. What has changed?” she said, frustrated. Dracos heart was pounding, “Do you have the homework, Hermione? Snape will beat me severely if I don’t…” He asked, dragging out the question. Hermione began to bite harder on her lip, it was purple, bruised, and bleeding. “There was no ‘homework’ and as far as we’re concerned, there will never be ‘homework’.” She looked to him with complete lust, hating that he changed the subject. “Maybe you should pay attention to the important things in life…” she let the words linger, watching Draco wince at the word ‘important’. He knew exactly what she meant. Watching her raw lips, her curly hair, he loved everything about her. “I loved you, Draco.” She sighed, pushing her hair back and walking away.
Draco walked away also… straight to his room. He sat awhile on his bed. Letting one single tear fall, he suddenly began to barely sing, “ Lookin’ back on the memory of the dance we shared Holding you I held everything for a moment Beneath the stars above. Wasn't I the king? For a moment all the world was right how could I have known If I'd only known how the king would fall. Hey who's to say That you’d ever say goodbye You know, I might have changed it all.” He finished, streaks of tears across his pale face, washed with memories of what could have, might have, should have been.
