*** Remus Lupin did not like heights. His hands tightened around Sirius’ waist as they soared higher on his enchanted motorbike. His head rested against his back and he let out a small sigh. Though it was frightening, the city lights were beautiful from up above. Sirius was silent, and wouldn’t answer any questions that Remus asked that would give a clue where they were going. Even so, Remus kept asking.
“Where are we going?”
Silence followed the question and Remus was sure he wasn’t going to answer. It was silent again, with the exception of vehicles below and some very indistinct chatter from below. One minute passed, then two. More passed, and Remus look up at Sirius. His eyes were fixed ahead, and looked as if he was in deep thought. Remus knew not to ask again, as tempting as it was. Sirius would not tell him.
“It’s a surprise,” He said suddenly, turning his head. Remus had to take a moment to comprehend what he was talking about. Remus just nodded and looked in his eyes. They looked so distant.
“Oh,” Neither spoke afterwards.
They soon landed in an empty alleyway, and Remus watched as Sirius disillusioned the bike. They stood there for a while, doing nothing when Sirius grabbed Remus’ hand and led him into the streets of London. Remus just followed as Sirius dragged him to a local park. Musicians stood there with their violins and cellos, smiling as they played slow mellow songs. Chairs were set in front of them and couples came together and listened. Remus stopped walking and the males’ hands slipped away. He smiled a little as he listened to the classical music made by the musicians.
“Want to move closer?” Sirius asked him.
He answered quietly, “Okay”.
They took two vacant seats and pulled them together. Sirius put his arm around Remus’ shoulder as he rested his head on his shoulder. Remus looked at Sirius, and placed a small kiss upon his lips. Lights decorated the park, shining brightly.
“Candles would be more romantic than this elektic stuff,” Sirius murmured.
Couples came, and some left but Remus didn’t really notice. His mind was lost in a trance by the beautiful music. He didn’t know how long the spent there, but as it got increasingly darker, the musicians packed up and left.
“We have to leave, Moony,” Sirius said quietly. Remus gave him a small nod and stood up.
“We’re going to go visit James, Lily and Harry.” A nod.
“The Daily Prophet said that Death Eater activity was increasing, and Muggles even noticed things.”
“Increasing? I didn’t think that was possible.” Remus replied pensively.
“Yeah, well, it is.” His voice was cold, and Remus shot Sirius a worried glance, but he wasn’t looking at him.
“Are you worried about them?” Remus asked quietly.
“Why wouldn’t I be? They are my friends… Are you worried?”
“Of course I am. They are my friends too,”
“Really now? What a surprise. You don’t act like it. You disappear sometimes, and you never call. Tell me, Remus, where do you go?”
“Nowhere,”
Remus heard him growl in frustration. “We can’t be together if you don’t trust me. You never tell me anything. It can’t work this way. We can’t have feelings for each other anymore,” Sirius ran. Remus didn’t chase.
*** He hadn’t heard from Remus since. He’d send James letters, but never him. At times, he thought he could hear Remus crying. He saw him though, on that fateful day. He came by when the Potter’s were betrayed. Everyone would think he betrayed James and Lily; Remus wouldn’t though. When Remus spotted him. It was his only chance. Aurors were coming and he had no time.
“REMUS! I DIDN’T DO IT! YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME! PLEASE!”
Anger-filled eyes. He doesn’t believe you. Give up.
No… He still had something to tell him.
“I’M SO SORRY REMUS! I DIDN’T MEAN ANYTHING THAT NIGHT! I STILL LOVE YOU REMUS! PLEASE REMUS! DON’T DO THIS TO ME!”
It’s too late.
Remus shook his head and turned away. Remus ran. Sirius didn’t’ chase. He couldn’t chase.
