What is a healthy school canteen?

BRAINSTORM as a large group the definition of a healthy school canteen.

Possible answers may include a canteen that provides with one or more of the following :

• Appetising food
• Fresh food
• Low-fat foods
• Foods that fit the national nutrient criteria
• Foods that do not contain additives
• A variety of foods
• A whole meal approach
• Only a moderate amount of 'extra' foods.

As you can see from what we have just reflected on, there is not one, but many aspects that make up a healthy school canteen. Today we will address the different aspects of healthy eating and healthy canteen menus, beginning with some basic nutrition information so that everyone here today will have a similar understanding at the end of the training session.
