Mortal Coil

In all my dreams
That glitter and shine,
I am paralyzed by truth,
As I cling to the divine.
As I am pulled from slumber,
My eyes burn by piercing rays
As the city wakes with tears and crime.
God is gone, nothing to praise.

Charred buildings,
Once structures of order
Line the streets
With mothers and children,
Clinging to hope,
Unable to eat.

In blood stained truth
And war stained life,
I must learn to wade through,
Being bound by the knife.

No one learns the lessons of the past.
We slay the world,
So harsh, so fast.

I long to dream the dreams that smother
With too happiness as well as sorrow.
I clutch my spirit with uncertain fervor,
As I tremble at tomorrow.
