4 months and counting (the pounds!)...

We just had Kai's 4 month appointment on Valentine's Day.  He had to be measured twice because they were amazed at his growth and wondered if it were really possible, or if someone flubbed on the record last time.  He is in the 95th percentile for height and the 99th percentile for weight.  Wow!  We thought our arms were telling us something.  He is nearly 18 & 1/2 pounds now, and 27 inches in length.

His feet now hang out of his carseat and he is almost too heavy for it (20 lb. limit).  We are now shopping for a new carseat for a baby very much under a year old who still needs a backwards-facing seat.  Any suggestions?

He is now sleeping the first leg for about 8 hours without getting up.  Then it's up every hour or so after that until 7am.  He doesn't like to take afternoon naps (post 2pm), so he goes to sleep by 5:30pm.  Our pediatrician said we need to re-set his sleep schedule by extending his evening wake time by an extra half-hour every two days.  As I have been extending it to 6pm these last two days, Kai started taking a 20-minute afternoon nap around 3:30pm!  Hope is in sight!  Our doctor also said that not all kids will sleep 12 hours at night.  It appears that Kai is one of those.  So our goal is to extend his wake time until about 7:30 or 8pm, to allow for a significant portion of the night to sleep for ALL of us.

Wow!  I never read this in any of the books or research I've poured over.  I guess some things just have to be experienced with each unique child!  He is almost always happy, though.  The adjectives people use to describe him when they meet him are "happy", "content", "sweet", "interested", and "friendly." The picture shows the 2-minute persistent grin he gave his daddy during his favorite time--bath time.

What a doll! I love having the blog, you guys are too far away! Good job Kai- 8 hours? We're thrilled when your cousins sleep 8 hours, if they all do it we're up 5 times making sure everyone is still breathing! Keep growing! Love, Nick, Amber, Ethan, Isaac, and Anna
