Policies Regarding Use of the Building

POLICIES REGARDING USE OF THE BUILDING

BY NON-YWCA GROUPS

The YWCA is a worldwide women's membership organization working to empower women and to eliminate racism.

To the extent that space is available, other groups sharing the YWCA aims and objectives may use the YWCA building within the framework of the following policies:

  1. Priority on use of the building shall be given to YWCA groups.
  1. Applications for use of space by non-YWCA groups must be picked up in person, submitted in writing and approved in writing. We require a minimum of 3 days turnaround time after application.
  1. The YWCA reserves the right to deny use of the facilities to any group that is in conflict with our mission.
  1. The YWCA is non-partisan, and groups representing or promoting one political philosophy or candidates of one party may not be granted permission to use the building. This does not include groups sponsoring forums or other meetings representing various sides of a question.
  1. The YWCA will not rent to for-profit groups on an ongoing basis due to non-profit tax restrictions.
  1. Requests for money-making events by non-profit groups will be considered on an individual basis.
  1. No private social affairs (such as weddings, receptions or dances) will be considered.
  1. Rentals during times when the YWCA is normally closed require special consideration and approval.
  1. A written agreement will be signed by a representative of the group and will include space reserved, cost, times, maintenance responsibility, damage or loss responsibility, and a hold harmless clause to indemnify the YWCA, its officers, agents, and employees, from any liability for personal injury, death or property damage arising out of the use of its facilities. Safety and emergency procedures will be reviewed and signed by the representative.
  1. Fees will be charged to cover the cost of maintenance, supervision, cleaning and equipment.
  1. Noise levels shall be carefully monitored and the rights of the neighbors respected. Should there be a complaint, the YWCA staff will notify the group and request that the problem be taken care of. Should there be subsequent complaints or fines, the contracting group shall be responsible, and the group's activities canceled.
  1. Participant limits set by the Fire Marshall shall be followed and all fire safety precautions strictly adhered to. Lighted candles are not to be used.
  1. Requests for events using alcoholic beverages (only white wine or champagne permissible) must be approved by the Executive Director.
  1. Groups are responsible for their own set-ups and for seeing that the facilities are returned as nearly as possible to their original set up. If YWCA custodial services are required beyond the normal amount, the group will be charged.
  1. All trash and garbage must be put in dumpster after the event.
  1. The piano may not be moved without staff permission and may never be placed on the stage.
