Program and Public Affairs Committee

Purpose: To ensure that the Mission of the Association is reflected throughout its programs, to provide information on current public policy issues to the Board of Directors and the membership, and to recommend actions when appropriate.

Composition: The Committee shall be appointed by the President in consultation with the Executive Director. Non-Board members welcome.

Responsibilities of Committee:

1. Holds Committee meetings and adheres to the purpose of the Committee, by annually reviewing all programs of the YWCA at UC Berkeley.

2. Works with the Executive Director and staff on assessment, design, implementation and evaluation of the programs.

3. Plans and executes the program for the Annual Retreat.

4. Plans and facilitates programs for the Board meetings as appropriate.

5. Reviews Public Policy bulletins issued by the YWCA of the USA and decides which issues to bring to the attention of the Board.

6. Keeps abreast of community and University issues, as well as state, national, and global issues and brings this information to the Board as appropriate.

7. Decides which issues need to be brought to the attention of the general membership. Recommends action if indicated.

Responsibilities of Staff:

1. The Executive Director serves as staff to the Committee.

2. The staff is responsible for reporting to the Committee regarding the status of the programs and for bringing to the Committee suggestions for new programs and plans to be implemented.
