I just started studying for the 70-210 exam and I'm using the Updated
Sybex book.  Well, one of the review questions is:
You have machines running DOS, Win95, Win98 and WinNT 4 that needs to be
upgraded to Win2k Pro. From which of the following operating systems
would you run the WINN32 command? Choose all that apply.
A. DOS
B. Win95
C. Win98
D. Win NT
Now the answers listed are B, C, and D.  But the explanation says that
the WINNT32 command is only run from NT or 2000.
So my question is which is correct? The answer or the explanation?
Thanks,
JW

Subject: Description of what 70-210 exam was like.
It was harder than I thought it would be. I used the win2k transcender and
the troytec edition 4. If you memorize the questions on
the troytec and the transcender you should be fine. You will be suprised at
how word for word the exam questions are compared to the test preps. The
test hits on everything in the exam outline. So I can't tell you to focus on
anything in paticular. Memorize those 2 test preps and also, MAKE SURE YOU
GET MICROSOFT'S WAY OF SOLVING PROBLEMS DOWN IN YOUR HEAD.
That way, if you come across a question you did not see on either the
transcender or the troytec, you can reason it out. You have 2 hours for the
exam. You won't need it.
I had 50+ minutes left after I finished. If you don't know a question, its
better not to stress out on it, just mark it and go back to it after you
finish the rest of the exam. When you find out you have an hour left to
figure out the 5-6 marked questions, your stress will be minimal.
You need a 540 to pass, I got a 720.
I will be taking 70-215 in 2 weeks. I'll post more then.

NO.  It is a standard <NT4.0 format> multi-guess format.  It is in four
parts.  Server, Pro, Directory, NetCert.  What sequence you get them in is
randomized.  Each test is approximately 22-26 questions and are timed
separately - about 55-65 min each section.  I took a quick water/restroom
break before starting each section.  Timer did not start until I clicked the
start button on EACH separate section.  No cute score bar at the end.  Just
a statement that says either Pass or Fail.  Mine said Pass.

AFAIK, owing to the similarity of XP to win2k there will be no requirement
to upgrade your win2k cert to XP (as you had to with NT) - there will of
course be a winXP certification process - there are already XP beta exams
being held - but your MCSE in win2k will still stand.
That's how it stands atm, AFAIK, but things may change.  TBH I can't see
Microsoft expiring the win2k exams, and certainly not forcing win2k MSCE's
to upgrade.

I was trying to partition my Windows 2000 NTFS machine with Partition

It says that "It needs a FAT 32 partition ", but i have only NTFS throughout
my 20 GB hard disk . On the MSDN site , there are some tips , which
advocates the use of the Microsoft management console . it says "Right click
on unallocated space and then click "Create Partition" ,. But when i see the
disk management console . there is no unallocated space ./ I really am
clueless about how to  partition my HD , without wiping everything off.
Please help me ...

Intra site replication is automatic every 5 minutes or so with emergency

Intersite is 3 hourly by default except for imergency repications for

The GC in all instances will be as up to date as the most recent scheduled

If I have multiple sites, each with a Global Catalog server in them.
Does the replication happen when active directory replicates or do they
follow their own replication schedule?  I realize of course that Active
Directory replication timing can be controlled, but if Global Catalogs have their
own replication schedule, how often will they being their replication once a
change is made?  And can this be controlled?  If so how?

I am just beginning the MCSE 2000 track and am wondering is XP "jumping the
gun?"  Most companies I know are still using NT 4.0 and will begin migration
to 2000 in the next 6-12 months.
Is Microsoft jumping the gun to generate revenue?
If I complete my MCSE in 5-6 months...how long will it last if MS rolls out
a new operating system once a year?
New OS's have been out every two years for the last decade or so.
MCSE has been changed once.  If you're really paranoid about having to
re-learn new materials and possibly recertify, then IT is not the
field you should be in.

Subject: Re: last date for test no 70-240
There has been no announcement from Microsoft about extending the deadline.
But unless a whole lot more people finish the W2K track real soon, it
wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft extended the deadline.
On a similar note - no one knows what the passing score is on the 70-240
exam. My guess is that they have recently lowered the passing score. A lot
more people are passing the 70-240 than did when it first came out. Some of
this could be because, as time goes on, the people currently taking 70-240
have more experience with W2K than those who took the exam early.
But consider this: Microsoft recently lowered the passing score on 70-210
(Professional) from 620 to 540. They probably did this to make it easier for
people to get their MCP status. Did they lower the passing score on the
Professional section of 70-240 as well? Possibly. I'd be willing to wager
that they lowered the bar on all four sections of the 70-240. People who
failed it early had lots of time to take the Core 4 exams. But for people
taking the 70-240 now, time is running out. If they fail 70-240 now, they
may chuck the idea of trying to pass 4 to 7 exams in three months. Not
something that Microsoft wants.
Other indicators that Microsoft wants people to take and pass these exams
now is that they have discounted the price of the exams (if you schedule the
exam by August 31 - opps! - we mean September 30).
And don't forget that "Early Achiever" card that we all covet.

Alright, I know this question must be asked many times over but I'm going
to ask it again.  I want to know some good training BOOKS.  I'm not that
interested in PRACTICE EXAMS yet.  I'm looking for one specifically for
the 70-210 Professional exam.  From what I've read the Syngress book isn't
that good for this particular exam (although I heard their book for 70-216 was
the best available).  The Sybex book was giving just enough info to pass the
test but wasn't detailed in a lot of areas.  And the Exam Cram was for some
last minute review.
So my question to you many people is are there any books you've come across
that you simply can not do without?  I'm expecting to have to get at least
two different study guides, just which two or more??
Thanks,
JW

Neither one. TroyTec is a braindump (with the emphasis on dump).
Try ExamCram's core four box set, or better, work with the product.
70-240 must be passable. if this groucy cynic can pass, you can too.

OK Guys here is what I did. I read a few dumps and seemed to be getting
tired of all the missing information or in some cases incorrect questions
and answers (some of them had me feeling a little upside down after cramming
them). I bought a few books (Exam Cram) but still couldnt get focused, I
still dont know why!
I searched the internet looking for a few resources for exam info and found
one, the site deals with MSFT's MCDBA, MCSE, MCSD and I think CISCO but I
didnt look closely. They sell study guides and guarantee them (very cheap),
which for the $14.95 I paid for each exam guide seemed very reasonable (I
bought 6 exam guides in total, not all at the same time as I was a little
pessimistic at first). It wasnt that I couldnt get all that info from
various sites,
because I absolutley believe that the sites are out there (its just not
condensed into one easy guide). It was more to do with being hurried at work
and not having enough time to study that I turned to the "pay for exams
site". BUT in the end I am glad for two things... THIS SITE and THE SITE
LISTED BELOW!
In some ways I feel terrible, but in others, after the stunts that MSFT has
pulled with our certs. I am fine with it
I used:
Exam Cram Books and http://www.examjam.net
Cheers!
