I concur.  Messages "marked" are not counted as incorrect if left marked at
the time of completion.
Michael Vassallo wrote in message ...
If the marked questions were considered wrong at the time of scoring then
the test fairy must have made up scores for me, because on any test that
allows me to mark a question I do so.  Just so I can recheck my answer
later.  On several tests I had all the answers marked so I would have to say
that they are not considered any differently at the time of scoring.
At least that's what I think.

I am reasonably sure that the marked items are not considered any
differently than unmarked items at the time of scoring.
As to a question with 2 correct answers out of 3 marked, currently it is
scored as totally wrong. No partial credit is given. The only current
exception to this appears to be the case study questions that appear on
exam 70-100.
All the rest of your questions should be answered on the following pages.

Somebody told me that if you leave a question marked it is considered
wrong regardless of the answer. It sounds very strange to me. Anyway, does
anybody confirm that leaving question marked is not influent?
Is it available a general description of the way questions and scores
are managed?
For example, what happens if a questions has 3 correct answers and you
mark only 2? And if you mark 2 right answers and 1 wrong answer?
If a question allows only one answer, can exist true, false and
"partially true" answers? How are they evaluated?

Subject: Need Help please!
Hello everyone. I am trying to put together a program of study so that I
can get the most out of my efforts. With the original NT 4.0 track, within
10 exams I would have qualified for MCSE+I & MCDBA. Now I am unsure of what
to do with the new 2000 track replacing some of the exams. Should I still
continue with my schedule, or should I revamp my plans for the 2000 track?
I am quite confused as to the reasoning behind the switch.
I have been working with computers on the software side for a dozen years.
I know how to install and troubleshoot software, and feel confident in
that. My problem is that I have limited hardware and practically no
networking experience. My finances are tight so I will have to learn on my
own. Can anyone give me some tips or self-study? I would appreciate any
comments at all. Also, would it be better to wait till after I get an MCP
certification before job hunting? I am going to look for an entry level
job, so that I can get my feet wet. I don't have the expectations of high
salary until after I get a few years of experience under my belt.
My other question is about the certification track. Below, I have the exams
and what certification I will earn with them. I tried to maximize my effort
so that one exam would work for multiple certifications. Here they are:
70-058 Networking Essentials
70-059 Internetworking with MS TCP/IP on MS Win NT 4.0
(MCP Certification)
70-067 Implementing & Supporting MS Win NT Server 4.0
70-087 Implementing & Supporting MS Internet Information Server 4.0
(MCP+I Certification)
70-068 Implementing & Supporting MS Win NT Server 4.0 in the Enterprise
70-073 Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0
70-080 Implementing & Supporting MS IE 5.0 by Using the MS IE Administration Kit
(MCSE Certification)
70-028 Administering MS SQL Server 7.0
70-029 Designing & Implementing Databases with MS SQL Server 7.0
(MCSE+I, MCDBA)
I hope I am on the right track. Anyone who has a comment on this please
feel free to tell me.
Thank you,
Douglass

Subject: Here is my situation, need some suggestions
I have a strong interest in the IT field.  I took an Oracle class which
gave me basic intro to the field but I feel I prefer the networking and
hardware side to the software side.
So I am considering getting an MCSE.
I have read through these newsgroups and understand since I have no
employment experience I will start out in a beginners job at first which
is not a problem to me.
I built my PC and have a home network setup with a firewall.
On the network are two PCs, two Apple Laptops (hooked wirelessly) and a
Desktop Apple box.
These are all hooked to my Cable modem.
The PC I built has Windows 98 on it.  I've put in a RAID in one of my
other computers which I sold a while back.
So yes I have a strong interest in the computers field but no employment
experience.
As for my education experience, I have a BA and a JD (aka a law degree).
Yes I am a full fledge attorney and member of the Bar here in michigan.
Being only 28 years old and fed up with the law field I want to switch.
Also I am currently in an MBA program planning on concentrating on the
finance and info science management field.
Sounds more like a professional student.
So I know not to set my expectations high for pay wise but knowing the
above and considering I will take a course program (at a cost of about
4000 dollars lasting 6 months) what will be my prospects?
Once I take one of the first test or two I understand I will be a MCP.
Will being an MCP let me start in a tech support job or something?
With the end result getting the MCSE I want to go further in this field.
Currently the course I looked at will teach all NT 4.0 subjects.
I will do 2000 stuff next year prior to expiration of my 4.0
certifacation.
So I need advice, counsel, a kick in the rear to help me figure this out.
Thanks for any input.

- In Execution mode, It shown me something like "It is unregistered, please

- In Install mode, It can run and show a password promote but the software
shown me something like "It is used by other terminal" then close the
database.
- If I change the user security for the software, it can run but shown me
something like "Unable to open database".
I read many document from Microsoft ,on web knowledge base or TechNet, but

Subject: Microsoft starts to arrest people??? (long but urgent!)
Dear students and fellow instructors,
I'd like to get your opinion on a message someone named Kamal Lider
[[email protected]] has sent me a few days ago. He gave me his phone
number, but since I don't live in Canada, I did not call to verify his story.
If anyone out there is from Canada (that's what this Kamal says he's from),
could you call to verify this suspicious but outraging story (if it is indeed
true)? His phone number is 250 658-4664 but I cannot say if this is indeed
a valid Canadian phone number.
See forwarded message right after my signature. After his original message
he sent me another one urging me to go offline yet another time. Again, the
message is at the bottom of the first forwarded message.
What do you think about this? I'd like to get your opinion on this "hilarious"
email. Do you think it's a true warning, or is it made just for me to get offline
because someone got a bit too jealous? Even if this is a true story, why should
I care about it? Did I do anything illegal? Did YOU do anything wrong by visiting
my site, downloading free software, studying hard (the way I tell you to study)
and passing the Microsoft MCP exams? Should all those 933, 966 and 1000 scorers
worry and lock themselves at home just because they were to good at what they did?
Should I stop teaching just because my students score round scores on the MCP exams?
And if it is indeed true, since when did Microsoft team up with the Canadian police
to arrest someone that did too well on his MCSE exams? Furthermore, if it indeed
true, why don't we hear about it on 60 minutes and CNN? That's an outrage!
I would really like to hear your opinion on this matter.
Thank you for your time.
PS: I'll use this message to send you all my best wishes and good luck on your
future tests. I hope my methods of studying will help to keep and raise the value
of the MCSE certificate. That's something we all need to wish for in these "paper
certificate" times.

Daniel, I am MCSE+ Internet. I was arrested by Police tonight who were accompanied

in the high 900s. They took 2 computers from my house but left this one as it was
not working. It had no hard drive or memory or Video card etc.I borrowed some parts

I am going to loose my MCSE after all that hard work.I mentioned your site to a few

I was released without charge but my computers are going to be examined. It is 1am

sure that your home page is bookmarked.
Please Please go off site for a few weeks. As soon as they see your site I will
be toast no matter what disclaimers you have on there. I do not want them knocking
on your door either.
I was questioned about how I cheated!! Which books I had read? etc etc
Please go off site straight away. I just hope you get this email before
they have a chance to go through my computers. By the way this is my alias mail
site that i just created.
Email me back to give me suggestions on this reply address. I will format this drive
again after I receive a reply. Meanwhile I will delete any trace of this mail.
Thanks!!

Please Please Go off line for a few weeks.
This is the second message he sent me:
Daniel, I am glad you are going to review this but by then it will probably be to late.
You can phone me on 250 658-4664 if you want. You must close your site even if its only
for a few days.I am waiting for those idiots to phone me or come round again. If they
have already gotten to your site then your toast too.

I asked someone taking the Enterprise test in Vancouver to specifically look
for the word FIRST.  He said it was not there.  He also said it first stated
there would be adaptive Qs, and stated secondly (WITHOUT using the word
THEN) there would be non-adaptive Qs.
If the adaptive Qs stop when the exam has an accurate prediction of your
score, then it makes no sense for any further Qs to count towards the score.
Perhaps ALL 10 Qs are not scored -- perhaps MS uses those 10 Qs to test out
new Qs and to compare the results to the adaptive portion.

Well, when I took it there was no mention of FIRST.  Maybe the instructions

Perhaps someone has the exact phrasing.

Well, I got the idea that the adaptive questions were first from the exam

35 questions, the first 10-20 being in the adaptive format, and the
remainder in a non-adaptive format".  Call me Mr Picky, but that seems to

On Mixed Adaptive tests (like Enterprise):
There is no way to tell which Qs are part of the adaptive exam & which are regular.
I do not know where people get the idea that the adaptive/non-adaptive are first.
I suspect they are mixed in - that way getting an easy question does not
indicate you got the last one wrong.
There is no BACK button at all & you cannot mark questions to review later

Today, I picked my training materials (MS Official Curriculum for
Administering Windows NT 4.0) for
course 803 that starts on Monday, 4/10.  Before installing the the CD,
part #X03-80093, I read the readme
file, which states I need to install IE 3.0.!  Files in the CD are
various dates in 1996.  The CD is copyrighted
1998.  Is this the current version of the software?  I also received a
loose leaf binder containing Administering
MS Windows NT 4.0 class pack, material #803BCP.What other training
materials should accompany the
materials I received from the tainting center.  After picking up the
materials I realized that I didn't get an
evaluation copy of NT 4 workstation and NT 4.0 server.  I called the
instructor who told me they don't
furnish evaluation copies of NT.   About an hour later the instructor
called me to state they found an  evaluation
copy of NT they would give me.  From what I've read in this newsgroup I
thought evaluation copies of
NT was standard fare for C-Tech training centers.
Advice/comments greatly appreciated because I can probably back out of
the program before Monday.

sweating towards to end if you know what I mean......really,really, really know
your connectors and merging MS Mail with Exchange situations.....
Will
Yeah.... the Exchange Connectivity Guide has a good section on MS Mail
migration.  It's extremely useful if (like most people, I suspect) you don't
have access to an MS Mail network.

Subject: Re: MCSE + Forefront - Is it worth it ???
No personal experience.  But from what I heard/read when I was working on my
MCSE, they are overpriced and not that good.  Alot of folks that had bought in
to the Forefront stuff said to "run the other way."  Again, I did not use them.

Hi,
I am thinking of starting an MCSE course with Forefront. They produce a set of
CDROMs for self learning. I downloaded the demo course from their web site
and like it very much. They claim co developed by Microsoft.
Has anyone completed MCSE through Forefront ?
How did you find the whole course ?
They are offering MCSE + the Win2K course when it comes out for ¡Ì1200 + VAT.
Everything I need.
Before I dive in, is it worth starting the course now, as some exams are
being withdrawn in December ?
Any thoughts ?
Thanks

Subject: IIS 4.0 on monday
hi, I'm doing IIS 4 on monday, hopefully I'll pass, so I finally gain my
MCSE status. I 'v been practising a lot with IIS, have practical knowledge
of proxy 2.0 also.
They told me that the exam is kind of tricky, done also some test. The mmc
were confusing, even when you saw that it was ok, you had to click on it.
Same for if you doubted that you had clicked. I counted the number of
clicks, I think. The result was that even if you answered right it was
counted wrong.
So does anyone has some good advice about this exam.
Thanks

Subject: small business server
I have a problem with SBS I cannot upgrade to 4.5 from 4.0 I have posted on
SBSNG but did not get to the bottom of this.  it does not recognize the
admin password whether changed through NT or Console.  a past consultant
removed parts of SBS and put in place net addresses and removed DHCP
service.  The question is how do I now upgrade or do I have to reconfigure
the server and start again.
Any suggestion will be appreciated
Sorry this is not really a NG topic but is related to NT etc.

Are the rumours true that the TCP/IP exam is being retired?  This is hard to
understand, since it seems that its not going to Go Away anytime soon.

Subject: How similar are the Transcendors?
I was just curious how similar the Transcendor exams were compared to
the MCSE exams themselves? I asked my instructor and he basically told
me that if you have the Transcendors, those are the exact questions put
on the MCSE's except for the fact that they changed some words around
(like instead of having NY, they will put LA.. something that won't make
much of a difference.) Is this how a lot of people became a "paper"
MCSE? If so, I think it's just wrong.

Subject: Re: What is passing on Networking Essentials now!
Obviously the safe thing would be to assume 766. Don't take the test
until you're confident you can get at least that. It was 766 when I
took it 2 weeks ago.

Depends on the test that you recieve from MS. Mine was 766 when I took
it and others have said 733 and 700. I wouldn't sweat over it to much,
just take care you know your stuff and go out and kick Networking
Essentials in it's freaking teeth. =) Don't let the Situation
questions throw you for a loop, there's nothing too them. Just break
them down and you'll be fine. Good luck on Monday!
