I'm sitting here, staring at my computer with blurring eyes. No, I'm not crying, at least not yet. Last night I discovered a whole new level of mosquito-mania that us Manitobans never have to deal with. I will never again complain about the mosquitos back home, because the little buggers here in China are SO much worse! Last night, while I slept peacefully in my warm, snug bed, a sleathy squeeter snuck into my room and proceeded to make me his breakfast, lunch and dinner! He was particularly vicious, choosing two finger knuckles, the palm of my hand, both my ankles, my wrist, my forearm and my right eyelid. No not my forehead or eyebrow, but they actually lid. I woke up to an eye that didn't want to quite open. At first I thought it was my body trying to sleep a little longer, but after a few minutes of unsuccessfully being able to fully open my eye, I began to panic. Then I notice the dull, throbbing pain in my eye. This started to alarm me, so I raced to the nearest mirror and sure enough, my eye was all red and round and droopy. I had to walk around all day today with one eye half closed. It really resembles more of a bee sting rather than a mosquito bite. And unlike the bites back home, these don't pass in a day or two, they tend to last more like a week or two. How can one little bug cause so much pain I'll never understand!
