Another good week. School's good. We're getting ready for the Christmas Open House, so that means I'm prepping my students to do some presentations on what we've been studying in science class. I made magic mud this week with my grade 8's and they loved it! For those of you not in the know on magic mud, it's cornstarch and water that when mixed to the right consistancy, you can pour into your hand and it's liquid, but if you start rolling it in your hands it turns to a solid and as soon as you stop rolling it turns back to liquid. Anyways, we'll be demonstrating that to the parents. I went to the opera on Friday. I ditched out of a tourism show which I don't regret even though Jacky Chan preformed a few songs and the fireworks were apparently amazing. But I saw the Magic Flute instead, and despite the poor casting for the Queen of the Night, I loved every minute of it! Sometimes I feel dumb here, in that I'm surrounded by a lot of superficial people and a serious lack of culture ( Chinese or otherwise), so it was nice to be able to do something I would consider intelligent. Also, I'm realizing this is the first time in my life I'm not learning in a formal setting, and I REALLY miss it. I love teaching, and I love learning all the new things that come with being a first year teacher. Figuring out how to get through to kids and how to teach the material. But it's not the same. I can't wait to go back to university! I bought my Christmas tree this week and I set it up yesterday. I also got my mirrors up (I have to give my friend Anthony the credit for that though, I'm not too handy with an electric drill). Tonight all the newbie teachers are coming over and we're going to arrange how we're going to do gifts. Right now it's a toss up between a secret Santa or a Chinese gift exchange. So life is good and busy, in that order.
