                     Seven Inches(and smaller)

Barr/This Song is a Mess but So am I - Split
Two brand new (and exclusive?!) tracks, one each from Talky-Person-Speaker-Guy BARR,
and Electronic-I'm-Not-Even-Sure-What-Else-to-Call-Him-Guy This Song is a Mess. Barr's
track is a stream of consiousness, perhaps political (perhaps not) ranting about kids and
Modest Mouse and domestic violence. This Song's is more of his grieving over the people he
knows who have died of cancer. Each copy comes with a photo of the two at the beach by
none other than God-Damn-I-See-His-Pictures-Everywhere-Guy David Horvitz. Plus, lyrics!
                     Oedipus Records
                     $4

Barr - The Song is the Single
Two new songs from long time Solid Dude BARR. This time, venturing into maybe possibly
more accessable work. Might be off putting for old fans, what with the drums and bass and
keyboard, but seemingly live-band style. And songs that are sung. But damn, is it catchy. The
A-side is a song about the concept of singles, and the B-side is a song about the concept of
B-sides. your mind = BLOWN. Also, the artwork is there is no cover.
                     Post Present Medium
                     $4

                     Epsilons/Hips - Split
Heyo, like some 60's garage rock influenced shit (only not boring) pumped out by some kids
from the OC and some other awesome people from Bakersfield? With full color covers?
Dude, of COURSE you do, so why are you not buying this record already?
                     OlFactory Records
                     $4

Fathers Day - I Don't Want To Do This!
Nine songs from the point of view of a traditional father. Only set to silly/awesome hardcore
thrashy music. Three of the tracks recorded live at a house pary, with surprisingly good quality.
I don't know what else to say. If you heard it, you'd get it if you get it, if you don't no one
would be surprised. Now when I say "woman" I'm talking to you, and when I say "dinner"
                     I want some fucking food!
                     Gilgongo Records
                     $3

Mass Movement of the Moth/Polar - split
Yaaaaaay, screamy hardcore from the east coast! MMM throws in some keyboardy shit in
there too, and blah blah blah ONE SIDE OF THIS RECORD IS BLUE AND THE OTHER
SIDE IS WHITE! HOLY SHIT! Not like split down the middle or anything. the MMM side
is blue, and the Polar side is white. Crap. This is the second press, and supposedly the first
press went OOP super fast crazy style, so you should pick this pressing up ASAP.
                     Discern Direction Records
                     $5

                     Mikaela's Fiend/Antlers - Food Poisoning split
Mikaela's Fiend introduces us with some samples on the a-side (or rather the MF side), and
take us into some more effects-laden noise-rock. Antlers are like if Mikaela's Fiend did more
CWV-like hardcore. But were still pretty noisey. I don't know, if you like the earlier Blood
Brothers stuff, you might be into this. Vinyl is clear, of course.
                     Junk's Not Dead Records
                     $4

Navies - House Ties b/w Continental Divide

Two new songs on clear vinyl from DC/Philadelphia br00tal dual guitar band NAVIES on
Lovitt records. Side A is what you've come to love from Navies, and side B is an instrumental
song of the sort that you've come to love from Navies. Also, crazy silver artwork! awesome!
                     Lovitt Records
                     $4

                     Reindeer Tiger Team - S/T 7"
Like kinda mellow indie rock stuff? Like drums+guitar/vocals duos? Like it when they're
from Arizona? Like yellow vinyl? Like your seven inches limited and hand numbered
out of 300? Awesome, you'd totally dig this record, then.
                     Gilgongo Records
                     $3

Rock Goggle Fantasy - Society of the Spectacles

Holy shit, some old new stock from the Oedipus Records Distro! Crazy, legendary, totally
fucking awesome South Bay punk fucking rock. This little blurb could not possibly have
enough room to fully convey the awesomeness of this record. With this band pretty much
officially dead, members went on to do things such as Le Joshua, EKUK, and the CSULB
Philosophy Deptartment Honor Roll. 6 songs (including a Minutemen cover), 45 rpm,
recorded by the old bassist from Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, and so much energy,
your needle will probably jump off the record and go "Holy shit, what the fuck was that???"
                     We're From the Beach Records
                     $4

                     Saboteurs - Cement Feet
New seven inch from the San Fransico two-thirds of Hips from Bakersfield, striped down
and lo-fi. Guitar and drums garage rock duo, but if you think it'll be like the White Stripes,
you're fucking WRONG because the White Stripes suck and Saboteurs don't. Four songs
                     of thrashy trashy awesomeness.
                     Commodity Fetish Records
                     $4

Soliah Shawcross - Time to Check my Crackhouse

One-sided debut 7" from this Oregon punky-keyboardy-fuck-you band. Two songs on the
A-side, lyrics screened on the B-Side. I forgot what I said the first time, but I know I said
"The world needs more bands like this."
                     Limbless Records
                     $4

This is Revenge - Target Audience
2 songs, clear vinyl, limited editon, Orange County! I'd say a little sassy, a little keyboardy,
and a little actually pretty good. The Oedipus site says it's New-Wave inspired punk rock,
snotty and sassy. I guess that wouldn't be wrong.
                     Oedipus Records
                     $4

                     Xiu Xiu/Dead Science - split

This is one of those records you're going to kick yourself for
not owning. Listening to this record is basically like felling like you're in one of those 1920's-ish
Private Eye movies. Possibly while it's raining. Creeeeeeeeepy. Brian Miller said that the bands
intended to make "the weirdest record Deathbomb Arc has ever put out". Silkscreened covers.
                     Deathbomb Arc Records
                     $5

                     XBXRX/Total Shutdown - split 2x5"

Holy crap, this is one ridiculous release. Each band gets their own five inch record (the same
size as a compact disc!), one red and one blue, in a crazily colored long ass fold out cover,
limited to 600 copies imported from Austria. Because of all this craziness, it's a tad on the
expensive side, but well worth it (and cheaper than most places if you look around!). The
XBXRX record is outtakes from the Clear CD session, recorded by Ian MacKaye, so you
                     KNOW that shit's good.
                     Rock is Hell Records
                     $13

                     Ten Inches/Twelve Inches

Abe Vigoda - Sky Route/Star Roof

Repressing of the first full length by Abe Vigoda! Ok, this time, it's on black vinyl, not in a
gatefold sleeve, and doesn't come with the CD-R. bummer, I know, but look at it this way:
You won't get glitter paint all over the place every time you look at the record this time. And
there's no glitter paint on the actual record to make it skip. And it's not sewn so tight that you
can't get the record out ot the sleeve. The artwork is still pretty cool though. Red silkscreened
ink on black cover. Sweet. Apparently someone in Sonic Youth bought one, so that
                     automatically means you should too.
                     Not Not Fun/Post Present Medium
                     $9

BARR - Beyond Reinforced Jewel Cases

Holy shit. I mean, I love Barr, but this is just beyond fucking awesome. Mostly live drums,
and WAY more agressive than his past efforts, Barr's new LP is just... Wow. My Number
One album of 2005. Seriously. So fucking good. You don't even understand.
                     DoggPony Records
                     $9

                     Epsilons - s/t

14 tracks of OC garage rock done right. Split clear red/white vinyl for this one time pressing,
so get 'em while you can! This shit is quality, lemme tell ya. Just enough distortion, just enough
cowboy boots, and just enough drum solos. You'll regret it if you miss this one.
                     Young Cubs Records
                     $9

                     Navies - An Estate

Fiinally this EP is out on vinyl! Twelve inches of white vinyl, to be exact. When I had the 7"
in, that thing practically flew off the shelves (well, ok. Flew out the boxes). So pick this up
while you still can! Five tracks of br00tal DC fucking rock. Some heavy shit that'll leave you
going "Damn, I wish I were in a band that's this fucking good." Recomended if you like music that
fucking rules. CD Available on Lovitt Records.
                     Yosada Records
                     $8

Plot to Blow Up The Eiffel Tower -Love in the Fascist Brothel

You know what the deal with this is. Clear vinyl. Sssassy, sexual, San Diego spazzy hardcore.
Features (ex)members of Find Him and Kill Him, Dosage and Usage, Some Girls, blah blah
blah. Catch these dudes pretending to masturbate on a stage near you. CD is available on
Revelation Records. Wait, what? How did that happen?
                     Three One G Records
                     $9

                     XBXRX - Sixth in Sixes

OMG, XBXRX's newest full length, on 180 gram vinyl! On... Polyvinyl? What? No, you
read that right. Polyvinyl. Blinding artwork, and (surprise!) track names and lyrics! Holy shit!
If you don't know about these guys, you must be living in a cave. Srsly.
                     Polyvinyl Records
                     $10

Various Artists - Pisspounder Triple LP

Finally, this compilation of experimental drum-related projects sees the light of day! Each band
gets a whole side to themselves. Thrown in a hand numbered three panel fold out
painted/silkscreened cover, limited to 700. The bands are Rainbow Blanket, Sword Heaven,
Aa, Foot Village, Grey Skull, and Dreamhouse. Also, this is probably the most expensive thing
HardlyCore Distro will ever carry. If that doesn't get you excited, I don't know what will.
                     Deathbomb Arc Records
                     $20

                     Compact Discs

Barr - What Would the Second Barr

Eight Tracks of self-described "Agressive Talking over Beats". NOT hip-hop! But some-
thing sort of like it. Sometimes called a special art rebel "motivational speaker", and I can
kind of see why. This guy's all positive, and makes you feel super-good-inside. Watch for
this guy's new CD to come out on Kill Rock Stars pretty soon.
                     DoggPony Records. website
                     $9

Belly Boat - Dear Robert Hanoy

14 songs of accordion and piano. And it's actually a lot better than it sounds. Given the chance,
several of these songs will be stuck in your head for DAYS with their infectious, if somewhat
off kilter, dual female vocals. Full color booklet, limited to 500.
                     Not Not Fun Records
                     $9

Black Eyes - First Two seven inches on a CD
Three tracks off two OOP vinyl releases. Their first seven inch from Ruffian Records brings
us Some Boys and Shut Up, I Never (the first two Black Eyes songs ever!), while their split
with Early Humans brings the track Have Been Murdered Again, which is an early version
of Someone Has His Fingers Broken, the first track off their Self Titled LP. Silk screened
cover art with a weird mixture of brown and black ink.
                     Ruffian Records.
                     $5

                     Comadre - The Youth
At a Comadre show, I overheard some kid talking about my distro to his friend. "Yeah, when
it says 'hardly core', they really mean it." Yeah, well, here's your fucking hardcore, douchebag.
That all being said, this shit is hardcore hardcore. But fucking awesome. With a little bit of
spazzyness and some awesome clap-alongs. These kids are on tour forever, living radical,
and trust me, they are going to get fucking big. Slick packaging, 12 songs, and all around awesome.
                     Bloodtown Records
                     $9

El Guapo - The Burden of History
Way early El Guapo (now Supersystem) stuff, when they were a 3 piece the FIRST time.
More traditional forward rock stuff, but still hinting at the genius that is to come. Six songs.
                     You know you want it.
                     Resin Records
                     $5

El Guapo - The Phenomenon of Renewal

13 songs that all kind of blur together on this first full length from El Guapo. Can you hear the
Fugazi influence? I know I can. You know you've probably downloaded Symbol/Object off
of Epitonic, so now buy the album that it's on! And be like "Wow, El Guapo are awesome!"
                     Resin Records
                     $9

El Guapo - The Geography of Dissolution

Crazy well orchistrated free jazz! No kidding! 23 songs that comprise 2 different live sets
from 1999, when El Guapo was a 4 piece and had all sorts of crazy horns and shit. If you
listen closely, you can hear parts of songs that went on to become stuff on Super/System.
Really! Probably my favorite El Guapo album.
                     Mud Memory Records
                     $10

The Elusive - Sometimes Sounds Collapse
Pre-Q and not U band, featuring Chris and John. More "hardcore" than Q and Not U,
whatever that means. Six songs make up this EP.
                     Shute Records
                     $6

                     Equinox - Raise Up
Three songs written by Hugh McElroy and Saran Malene M., who worked together in AKA
Harlot #1. Saran's amazing voice provides the vocals, while Hugh McElroy, along with guest
appearences by other ex-Black Eyes members make up the music. Good stuff. Comes in
cardboard sleeve, but with full artwork.
                     Ruffian Records
                     $5

Foot Foot - Snaggle and Buck

Cutesy country-ish harmony filled type of music from some LA-area sisters and two other
dudes. Kinda puts me to sleep. 11 songs, and actually some pretty all-right artwork. Jesus,
what more do you want me to say about this?
                     Oedipus Records
                     $8

Foot Village - Fuck the Future

This CD is made up of the out of print material from Foot Village; their self released 3" CD-R,
the multi-label 7", and the 10" on Not Not Fun. All re-mastered for crazy awesome in your
face quality. And this time, no spiders. In case you didn't know, Foot Village is four drummers
and four voices doing reports on other countries. Self proclaimed "no electricity hardcore". Amazing.
                     Deathbomb Arc/ExciteBike Tapes/OlFactory Records
                     $9

                     Ghostlimb - s/t
Eleven songs of straight up hardcore in under 15 minutes. The way it was meant to be. Loud,
fast, aggressive and featuring members of Graf Orlock. Plus old english lettering and
                     rad artwork. Plus, cheap!
                     Commodity Fetish Records
                     $5

Hand Fed Babies - Self Titled EP
Seven tracks of experimental electronic dub. Self described as falling "somewhere in the
middle of dub, early electronic experimentation, central and west african rhythms, Go-Go
hip-hop and punk rock." I won't argue. Features members of Sentai, and
ex-members of Black Eyes. Beautiful two-color silk-screened covers. You know you want it!
                     Ruffian Records
                     $6

Hello Astronaut, Goodbye Television - Pixelated Math Costumes
Who's ready for some well crafted pop-songs? With maybe a couple measures of a
Slayer song thrown in? A little bit of Madness? Boy/girl vocals? Drumming on a metal shelf?
Keyboards? Crayons thrown in the jewel case window thing? Other awesome stuff?
Then dude, prepare to be blown away by this release.
                     Not Not Fun/OlFactory Records
                     $10

Joan of Arc - Joan of Arc, Dick Cheney, Mark Twain

When this came out, I seriously could not stop listening to it. It's still probably my favorite
Joan of Arc release to date. Maybe. I still haven't decided. But it's up there. 17 tracks of
pop gems, acoustic jams, and sound collages. And just a little bit of Rush (trust me, it's there).
If you like anything Kinsella, you need to own this.
                     Polyvinyl Records
                     $9

Joan of Arc - presents Guitar Duets

Need I say anything about Joan of Arc? I'm way fucking excited to carry this, and you
should be way excited to buy this. Now, it looks kinda cheapy and black and white from
the outside, but there's full color on the inside of the insert. The music? All instrumental. All
guitar. All duets. The ten people who have played guitar for Joan of Arc all got together and
drew a name out of a hat, and played a guitar duet with them. Oh, it's got it all. Soft ambient
stuff? Yeah. Crazy "how did they make that sound?" shit? Yes. Acoustic fingerpicking stuff?
                     Lots.
                     Record Label Records
                     $10

                     Tim Kinsella(s) - Crucifix Swastika

I guess the "s" at the end is optional now. But in all honesty, this EP is beyond better than the
one released on Troubleman. It's not as gritty and low-fi, which some of you may be into,
but the songs. Oh, the songs. Leaps and bounds better, we're talking about. Full of pills,
wine, whiskey, weed, speed, robot barbarians, possibly fake talk radio calls (it's in there
somewhere), t.v. screens, blah blah blah, Jesus, it's Tim Kinsella, just buy it already. Fuck.
Oh yeah, it's like, six songs, too.
                     Record Label Records
                     $8

La Mi Vida Violenta/Sentai - Split
La Mi Vida Violenta (AKA "The My Violent Life") are like, 8 people from Massachussets
that play awesome weird shit on instruments like the flute, and cello as well as traditional rock
instruments like drums and stuff. Two songs from them about shit like being on fire and World
War Two. Sentai, now they're kinda sassy lo-fi dance punk from DC. Three songs from them. Rad.
                     Ruffian Records
                     $5

Le Joshua - Point to the Sky

My god, this is finally out, and I have way too many of these for my own good. Fire-
crackers, songs that could easily be mistaken for Fugazi songs, full color artwork, LYRICS
(so you can sing along), and 7 tracks of PURE FUCKING AWESOME. It's about damned
time. But you know what, it was worth the wait. Also, just for the hell of it, Screamo. There,
I said it. Some one had to.
                     We're From The Beach Records
                     $9

Reindeer Tiger Team - Boy and Chief
With the 7" expected to go out of print pretty soon, this mayb be your best bet to hear RTT,
the super fucking good mellow indie pop band from Arizona. Superb (but not harsh)
drumming, simple guitar work, soothing vocals, and a little bit of toy xylophone thrown in.
Sure to put a smile on your face, or you must have no soul.
                     self released
                     $5

                     RisPaulRic - Purple Blaze

I'm sure you know about this, and have this dude on added on your myspace or whatever.
Acoustic guitars with delay-crazy vocals and some samples here and there from ex-Q and
Not U singer/guitarist/keyboardist/bass player Chris Richards. It's pretty good if you're
into that sort of thing. And I bet you are.
                     Academy Fight Song
                     $9

                     Skewbald - Grand Union
Whoa. 1/2 Minor Threat (Ian and Jeff) and Eddie Janney from the Faith/Rites of Spring
playing guitar, plus some kick ass bass lines from ex-Youth Brigade guitarist John Falls. How
good is that? VERY FUCKING GOOD is the answer. This shortlived band was around in
between two Minor Threat EPs, so you KNOW its good shit. All two songs that they recorded
are on this CD. Is it worth it? Fuck yes it is.
                     Dischord Records
                     $4

Things Falling Apart - As Above-So Below
Five songs from these Chicago boys. All six of them. Really mellow shit, reminds me of Jackie-O
Motherfucker, but with more violin, and a little more coherent. TOTALLY beautiful packaging,
blue sleeve with silver ink of a wood engraving of a shipwreck. Plus, Alchemy refernences?
That scores points in my book.
                     Self released
                     $7

This Song Is A Mess but So Am I - "Church Point, LA"

In case you haven't heard about This Song Is a Mess, Freddy Ruppert's one man electronic
musical tribute to his late mother Donna Ruppert, this sentence should have explained a lot.
When he comes to your town, you should catch him, flailing his arms and stomping his feet.
I wasn't too sure about This Song is a Mess, but about the thrid time seeing him live, I
understood. This 15 track compact disc just drove it further home. If you know what I mean
(because I'm a bit unsure myself).
                      Mattress Records

Two members of xbxrx/Li'l Pocket Knife/KIT/Snowsuit* etc bring you fourteen almost
TOO positive tracks of... well... Positivity. And drum machines. Distorted, distorted drum
machines. And yelling! About being positive! Imagine Snowsuit*, only with some female
vocals, and way way way more positive. Have I mentioned how fucking POSITIVE this is?

Brother Mitya - Melting Wax Daisies/the Demoralization of Urban Culture
This is a double album crammed all onto one blue-faced CD-R, with a tiny little booklet
(but tiny in a good way!) and a pressed flower. Awwwwww. When asked to describe
Mitya's sound, I like to say "It's kind of folky acoustic music played by skinny kid from
Southern California that has the voice of an old black blues guy from Mississippi." Buy it
if only for the "cover" of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, because that shit will be in
your head for a month, I swear.
                     Folktale Records
                     $5

Hot Chocolate City - Even Just To Know You
Four tracks from my solo effected-out guitar noise and voice mail project, dedicated to giving out
free(ish) hot chocolate. Keeping with that theme, this limited to 25 CDR release is packaged in
a plastic baggie with one serving of vegan hot chocolat mix. All inserts were hand stamped and
all CD faces were hand spray-painted sky blue and neon yellow. Reccomended if you like
                     gimmicky noise and stupid packaging.
                     HardlyCore Records
                     $3

                     James Fella/Treetops. - Split
Two track noise jams from two people on other sides of the country that are both making
shit happen. Treetops. is Arbor CDR and James Fella is none other than James Fella of
Gilgongo Records. Beautiful full color artwork, and hand painted CDR faces. Loooooong
tracks, too. Ranging from soft noises to ambience to slight harshness but always always interesting.

Josh Taylor's Friends Forever/Barrabarracuda - Bleached Speaches split
Josh Taylor's Friends Forever is basically still Friends Forever. Just, none of the same members
are playing the instruments. They still play from the same van, and still play the same songs,
and are still fucking crazy. But now the music is being played by 3 tall blonde ladies. Wearing
not a whole lot. I think that's the "bleached" part of the title. Anyway, Barrabarracuda is Britt
and Manda from Knit Witch, and the couple that happen to run Not Not Fun, plus Grace
from Rose For Bohdan/Foot Village/Grace's Amazing Kitty Cat Band. One track from JTFF,
three from BBC. Hand stamped, die cut sleeves! Yay!
                     Not Not Fun
                     $4

                     Minus Radio - The Escapist

Recorded in two sessions by LA's very own Bobb Bruno (Silver Daggers, Abe Vigoda,
stuff like that), this is a beautifully packaged full length CD-R in a digipak style case, with full
color artwork by Victor Gastelum (Calexico, SST Records), and black and white CDs.
Trust me when I say this looks fucking slick, and that they went all out on this. Nine songs in
54 minutes of Captain Beefheart, Trail of Dead, and Mars Volta inspired awesomeness.

                     $5

Plague of Dandelions - Demands Rigidly Defined Areas of Doubt and Uncertainty
Ugh, I know, a Plague CD-R. How lame of us, going with such a normal format that's so easlily
accessable. A regular sized CD-R. Well, we had to fuck with that somehow. Spray painted
CD faces! Spray painted gatefold covers! Hand glued artwork! ENHANCED CD!!! (that
means put it in your computer and there's videos.) Plus, it's crammed full of music; 7 songs,
PLUS the MP3 files, so you don't have to! Rad.
                      HardlyCore Records
                     $4

Plague of Dandelions - Live on KXLU
Live set on LA's own KXLU. Just like everybody else! 7 or 8 songs on 4 different tracks,
spray painted and shoved into folded over pages of ANP Quarterly. I think it's kinda cool.
                     self released
                     $2

Q and Not U - Wonderful People Remixes
Yeah, the last release by Q and Not U. Limited?
Yeah, probably. Black and white artwork looks like a negative of the album Power. Three
remixes of Wonderful People by President (Harris from Q and Not U), Manhunter and Ova
Looven. Get 'em while they're hot.
                     Self Released
                     $4

                     Snowsuit* - Consolation Prize

7 songs clocking in at 11:36, this is the latest release by Snowsuit*, or "the dude from xbxrx
playing really fast distorted computer music dressed up as a tiger dumping around screaming
in your face." He told me that I should maybe mention that it's packaged in recycled/recyclable
                     paper. So that's pretty cool.
                     No Format Records
                     $8

                     Various Artists - Arbor.

First release from the label Arbor CDR, and man is it ever a great way to start out. Full color

And getting punched in the face.
                     Dementoid Records
                     $3

XBXRX, Black Eyes, and the Germs. Clear yellow cassette with red and blue relief labels
                     (the bumpy kind). Rock.

                     $2.50

the Purple Crayons - Valentine's Day cassette
Hailing from the greater Bellflower/Seal Beach area, this lo-fi poptastic boy/girl, piano/vocals
duo verges on almost too cute and poppy for their own good. Almost. Pink and purple spray
painted tapes with hand written valentines in each one! Yeah! limited to 100! six songs!
                     HardlyCore Distro and Records
                     $3

                     DVDs/DVD-Rs

Deep Jew and Gator Surprise - Destiny is Stupid
What can be said about this? 77 minutes of the Fall 2006 tour. Lots of stupidity. Lots of noise.
Some singing along to Pearl Jam (and what tour documentary would be complete without that?).
Shows some real insight as to what it's like to be out in the middle of the US with a bunch of harsh noise dudes.
                     Please Not Today
                     $10

                     Floppy Discs

have to put it in your computer. Yes, there are several different colors. Yes, they all have
                     silver ink on them.
