Senti-Tray is a utility that lives in the Windows system tray and takes a screen-shot at specified intervals. The screen-shots are saved in a specified folder as JPEG images, using customized compression quality. Each image file is named DATE-TIME.JPG, where DATE and TIME are the actual date and time when the image is saved. =================================== _System Requirements PC 300Mhz or faster Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000 16Mb RAM 600Kb HD + space for images (see section: Disk Usage) 16Bpp display or better preferable =================================== _The Options "Save images to folder" - The folder where image files will be stored "JPEG Quality" - The compression quality for each image, I recommend using 25 "Admin Password" - The password used to activate Senti-Tray from the tray (double-click) "Capture image every ## seconds" - The delay between each screen-capture "Tray Tool-Tip" - A custom tool-tip to display for the tray icon, "Anti-Virus" is a good one to use ;-) "Do not show tray icon" - What is says! Senti-Tray will be completely hidden. You will need to run Senti-Tray again to activate the password prompt "Scheduled Capture" - With scheduled capture enabled you can tell Senti-Tray to only capture between two times of the day/night. Simply select the "from" time and "to" time, which are listed in 24hr format. =================================== _Disk Usage Senti-Tray can use up a lot of disk space if not administered on a regular basis (ie daily). The amount of space used for each image depends on the Compression Quality you select. I recommend a quality setting of 25. This creates a perfectly viewable/readable image and only uses approximately 30Kb per image. Another major factor is the interval between saves. The lowest setting you can have is 1 second, however I strongly recommend using no less than 30 seconds as the lag created by each screen-capture becomes quite noticeable otherwise. Hopefully in a future release I can figure out a way to capture without so much lag (on my 600Mhz Celeron the lag is approx. 1 second). Your file-system and cluster size will also play a role in usage, as in any multiple small-sized file storage. So how much space is used in say, 12 hours with a 30 second interval? In 12 hours with a delay of 30 seconds between each capture, approximately 45Mb of hard-disk space is used. For 24 hours, obviously this would be about 90Mb. =================================== _Command-Line Parameters Well there is only one at the moment. Running the program with the -STEALTH parameter will force Senti-Tray to automatically minimize to the system tray and begin capturing using the current configuration. This is mainly used for running when Windows starts. =================================== _Changes BETA v1.1 - Password is now encrypted in the ini-file - Added scheduled capture - Added browse for folder functionality - A few visual tweaks - Added tray-icon hiding option =================================== _Future Additions Yes, there are many more ideas to be implemented yet. Some of these include the following: - Remote administration via LAN/Internet - Option to start capturing only when certain keyword(s) have been typed - Option to start capturing only when a certain program is run - Create a new folder for image storage each session =================================== _Report A Bug Yes, please report any bugs you find! Simply e-mail me using the address at the top of this document, and the subject "Senti-Tray Bug". Thanks. =================================== _Known Bugs - Letters can be entered into interval and compression quality edit boxes - Not really a bug, window can be seen for a split second when running with the -stealth parameter, before minimizing to the tray. Hardly noticeable on my system.
