About the Website
Documentation of the Development Process
The objective in creating this website was to give my “Uncle’s” business an online presence and demonstrate my ability to create a functioning website. Throughout the process of creating this website I was able to complete other projects to ensure that the finished project would be up to personal and academic standards. The first step in creating this website was creating a plan for why I was creating the website. The next step I completed was creating a layout map for the different pages of the website. After that I was able to plan how the website would look aesthetically. The final step was creating the website and debugging based on trial and error.
Defense of the Final Product
When designing the website, I was going for simplicity. I think that by using a basic palette of colors that the website has a more professional and trendier look. Too many colors and the overuse of graphics can detract from how easy the website is to navigate and gather information from. When creating the home page, I decided to use a main graphic to get the user’s attention. I also used simple sentences to invoke ideas in the user’s head that would give the main idea of what the business stands for. When choosing the colors, I decided to use black as a background and white for text because it has great contrast, looks clean, and is the opposite of what the user is used to. I also used a blueish color to give a nice pop of color at the top of each page. Grey was also used to give just enough contrast with the black to divide sections of the pages. Each page has the same basic design because it allows the user to know what to expect and not get confused by changing color schemes.
Opportunities for Improvement and Growth
Some thing that I would have liked to be able to do with this website in the future would be creating a custom graphic for the website. I think it would give a more professional look if the name was not in plain text, but an image created by a graphic designer with a logo. I would have also like to maybe add some small touches to the design of the website that users and the business owner would appreciate. Another feature to add would be making the address at the bottom of the page link to Google maps so that users can easily find the location.
