San Carlos Church (San Carlos, Negros Occidental) History The church was first constructed from wood and nipa and the present church was built by Fr. Manuel Gomara in 1929, funded by prosperous local families such as the Lopezes and the Ledesmas. Features The church is distinctly symmetrical, and features broad, neat lines of heavy contrast. The walls are brightly colored and plastered evenly, which causes the red trims, transoms, cornices and windows to stand out from the rest of the facade. A protruding porte-cochere, framed by columns and a raking cornice, dominates the central facade. The church features slim bell towers that share the same striking coloration of the rest of the structure with their bright walls and contrasting red spires and slim lancet windows.
