25-Jan-2003 (Two pieces of memories)

After work today, at the bazaar corner of Far East Square facing Cross Street, I chanced upon a display of paintings (also available as reprints or in postcards) by artist, Mr. Harold Ong. Amongst other local sceneries, a painting showing the splendour of The Raffles Hotel was captivating; it's price was given as S$250/-.

As for me, I laid hold of two reprints. One was of the National Library at Stamford Road as drawn by Mr. Ong in 1960, which reminds me that it is timely to take some photographs of THE National Library (for Gen-Xer and oldies) now before it is demolished in the not-too-distant future. The other was of Telok Ayer Street in 1990 -- where the early immigrants set foot on Singapura for the very first time at Water Bay (Telok Ayer).
