Kay Fesler Fales

On a cold December day in 1935 I was born into a "coal miner's" home. I am a "coal miner's"daughter. When my Dad went into service, WWII, Mom and five kids (2 boys and 3 girls) moved to Marietta, Ohio where Mom had grown up. We lived on the main street of town and could walk to anything we wanted to do. At that time, it was safe for children to go places alone. We were taught to be cautious.of strangers. Our family left Ohio after the war ended and moved to West Palm Beach, Florida. We moved into the West Gate community, where I met some of my life long friends, I finished the sixth grade there. After school was out that year we moved west of Military Trail and lived there until I graduated and married. I met a Lake Worth fella, Don Fales, we married seven months after we met. Moved to Greenacres and raised our three children. We lived most of our married life in Greenacres. It was a great place to live in the late '50's.Today, our children are responsible adults, who all have jobs and families. Our son ,Ray, works as a supervisor at a battery manufacturing company in WPB. Oldest daughter, Teri, is an X-Ray Technician and travels through out the US in this line of work. Angie, our youngest works at Good Samaritan Hospital in WPB as a patient coordinator. If the staff will not fluff your pillows tell Angie and she will get it done. We have one grandchild, KATHELEEN LOUISE, Katie. She is named after me. She works for the city of Greenacres in the Parks Department. We are very proud of Katie. I became a cosmetologist while my children were still in school. Worked in Lake Worth until my children married. I then opened my own beauty shop-raised my sister's seven year old daughter after my sisters death, and then took care of my Mom after her stroke. In 1988, Don retired from Fl. Power and Light Co. I retired ,also. We sold our home and moved to Chiefland, Fl. where we now reside. He pursued his antique car restoration hobby and I continued mine of collecting bottles, antiques and other collectibles. After my Mother's death I became interested in making QUILTS. My first was made of 2 1/2" squares into a queen size quilt. I have made Mike Mortimer a "Jupiter Lighthouse" quilt and Jack Starr a red, white and blue star quilt. These are both my own design and are both king size quilts. A great big job, but fun. Don and I travel to the different car shows across the United States. We will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary in July of 1954. My titles for the past fifty years?? Mrs., Mommy, Cosmetologist, Granny, President and Vice-president. I have been very fortunate to have a great husband and wonderful children and a super grand-child. I have been blessed.------Kay (Fesler)Fales
