What good is a blog without a second entry...
Last weekend we finished out 3rd 5 boro tour, all 42 miles. The weather was fantastic, our 1st tour without rain! We started aroung Duane street this year, about the same as last, we took the 6:00 Staten Island ferry. Our 1st year we were on the 6:30 ferry and ended up one block south of Chambers and were in the second wave of riders, and didn't roll until after 8:30.
We stopped at 4 of the 5 rest stops this year, skipping the 1st as always because of the crowd. We took a brief stop at #2 in Astoria park and grabbed some water & snacks, but continued on the extra 2 miles to the Con-Ed stop where there were no lines at the porta-potties. Didn't know there was such a great view of Manhatten from the Con-Ed stop, very nice surprise.
We also added a quick stop this year at the cannon ball (5th stop) park stop to prep for the climb of the Varazano (spelling?) bridge, if you avoid the snacks & water the rest stop really isn't too crowded, there were even empty park benches to sit on.
