WATERHOUSE Post-Tribune staff writer GARY -- A recently completed analysis of the Gary Community School Corp.'s operating and closed school sites showed most buildings to be in poor penn manor school district or inadequate condition. Elementary, Nobel Elementary, McCullough Elementary (the site of the Girls Academy), Ivanhoe Elementary, Pyle Elementary, Chase, and the Horace Mann building. Gary School Board Member Michael Scott expressed shock at that school of rock movie downgrade: "I fail to see how those buildings are not in excellent condition." Architect Scott Winchester said southwest middle school those schools suffer from mild structure concerns, such as leaky roofing. They were instead listed in "very good" condition. At least eight school sites were listed in fair condition, meaning they need partial building replacement: Beveridge, parsons school of design Watson Boys Academy, Jefferson Elementary School, Kennedy King (the new site for Emerson Visual and Performing Arts students), Lincoln, Tolleston (home for the Gifted and Talented students), Roosevelt, and the Gary Area optometry school Career Center. But the majority of the district school buildings -- 21 --were found to be poor condition, suggesting that they need a complete building and mechanical system replacement to overcome safety and environmental hazards and that they were inadequate to handle future curriculum needs. Some "poor" buildings include: Aetna , Banneker, Lew Wallace, West Side, and Wirt. Winchester said it's possible to do enough repairs on a poor building, however, to get it in excellent shape. Gary Schools Superintendent Mary Steele-Agee said she's feels "confident" to have "very rich data" that will allow the corporation to determine which schools to close. post-trib.com: Feedback | Contact Us |About condoms at school Us | Advertise With Us | Media Kit | Post Tribune: Delivery Issues? | Subscribe | Subscriber Services | Online Photo folsom high school Store Affiliates: YourSeason.com | RogerEbert.com | SearchChicago - Autos | SearchChicago - Homes | SearchChicago - Jobs | NeighborhoodCircle.com | Centerstage  Partner: CBS2chicago.com © Copyright 2008 Digital Chicago, Inc. | Terms of Use Privacy key middle school Policy Submission Guidlines
