Prologue

The land of Hyrule is hidden in mountains of clouds, protecting it from the outside world. A planet in itself. With different people and continents, all wrapped in on the small patch of land. The Hylians, the main people of Hyrule, the humanoid race stretches out to almost every corner of the land.

The Sheikah’s attend to the royal Hylain family as guards and caretakers. Strong and mysterous they show off as intimidating, not many Sheikah’s are left in this world. They had died fighting for mysterous causes or for the honor of the royal family. The Sheikah’s are a noble race.

Next comes the Gerudos, a slightly altered version of the Hylians. Their skin is a few shades darker, all are well shaped giants. Their narrow bushy eye browse rein over long slender noses. The only other noticeable difference is that all of the Gerudos have fire-y orange hair, the race of warriors gather in the desert and a very secretive.

The Kokiri are the last of the humanoid races, all are children, protected in the thicket of the lush forest, under the watch of the Sprite Guardian, the Great Deku Tree. Ignorance is innocence and bliss for these people, all children the Kokiri never age.

The Zora and the Goron are the last hailing races in Hyrule. The Zora are the people of the water, they live in a caverns that are filled with underwater pools. With slim fish like bodies that go from a white-gray to a highlighted navy blue, exotic and breath taking few people have gotten the privilege of seeing these magnificence creatures.

Gorons live high in the mountains, harvesting crops and feasting on rocks. Big and sluggish they are a friendly people. More sociable then the Zora a Goron will go down to the Market in Hyrule Castle or the Kakariko Village.

Hyrule has long lived in peace, few people, if any can remember it ever being any different. The idea of a group of people attacking the kingdom is unthought of. The King is a good ruler, all the people are separated to the point that there is no question of who’s land is who. Poverty is not scene; guards rarely have to be posted. There is no reason for war. Therefore there is no reason to prepare for war. The people can’t imagine it being any different. That is all about to change.

Part One

Deep in the Kokiri Forest the hidden village lays silently as morning light began to touch the trees. All the children slept peacefully in their huts, their guardian fairies hovering over them protectively. All but one. High up in the tree house a single boy sleeps alone, shivering in spit of the warmth his blankets have to offer. With no fairy to protect him from the darkness of the mind the young Link is plagued with visions of events to come in his nightmarish rest.

He found himself in an open field; no sign of the familiar trees that always invaded his vision Link felt naked to the cold night. A castle towers over him, gray and lonely it is the only land marker in sight. This vision is not new, he has had it before. As always a blanket of thick gray clouds cover the sky as a depressing rain falls over the land. A blue light lands on his shoulder and watches the drawbridge intently. Link also stands watching, always watching waiting to see what he will find. He wants to run, go back to the forest home he is so used to, but his legs won’t move. They are planted to the ground, firmly keeping him in place.

A crack of lighting explodes in the air as the whine of rusted metal tries to drown it out. The drawbridge quickly lowers, before it even touches the ground a gray horse leaps from it. Flying through the air it touches the ground with trained grace. A slender rider wipes the beast to speed it up, it can’t go any fast. As it runs by Link he can see a frighten little girl, seated in front of the rider fearfully holding onto the horses neck. Just as soon as they came into sight they disappeared.

Link turns to the castle again as the claps of hooves fill the wet wooden bridge. Another horse emerges from the gothic castle, large and frightening Link gasps. The black mare is brought to a forced halt, whining under it masters power. The man in controle is clad in black, wearing his dark armor as if it were a second skin. His orange hair is red in the rain; his smile is that of pure evil. And for once Link knows real fear.

The boy shivers in his sleep.

A foreign wind sweeps through the forest. Its unnatural feel sends shivers to the early morning risers of the Kokiri. Exchanging worried glances they wonder what has brought on this change. The dark current sweeps its evil into the heart of the forest, wiping around the Great Deku Tree, the guardian spirit awakens from his rest. "Navi, doth thou sense it? An evil is emerging from the west. I can feel it taking control of the land itself." The blue fairy circles the Great Deku Tree taking in his every word. Landing briefly on one of his branches she willed him to go on. "We have only one hope…the boy without the fairy. Thou must summon him, bring him to me. He is our only hope."

"But…" She said quietly, "He is just a child."

"He is the chosen one! Find him, bring him to me. Doth thou doubt my word?"

"No!" Navi cried, jumping off the tree, "I believe you. But he’s just a child." She added quietly to herself as she flew away. Wondering why the Great Deku Tree would summon the boy without a fairy rather then a real warrior she made her way to the small village. Dashing under legs and flying over heads she circled twice looking for him. Taking advice from the fairy Storm she headed over to the single tree house hurriedly.

Sliding behind the curtain covering the entrance she found a room that was untouched by the morning light. Searching for a candleholder Navi’s attention was brought to a small cry that emerged from the south corner. Batting her wings quickly the blue light that illuminated from her grew and surrounded the room. In a small wooden bed a single body laid wrapped carefully in brown blankets. The body was shaking in fear as it tried to pull closer against the wall. The only thing visible about the body was a mass of golden hair that popped out from the blanket.

Squaring her shoulders Navi bravely announced her presence, "Hey! Link wake up! The Great Deku Tree has summoned you!" No response. The small ball of light started wildly dancing around the sleeping figure. "Come on, wake up! How can Hyrule’s fate depend on such a lazy boy?"

Floating down to his ratty mess of hair Navi batted her wings defiantly, grabbing a handful of those golden strands she yanked at his head harshly. Link squelched in his sleep, jumping out of the bed he hit the wooden floor with a dull thud. Clamoring to his feet the Kokiri searched for his attacker. Could that dark sinister man have made his way into the forest?

A strobe of blue light glided to his face. Link watched it intently as it took a seat on his freckled nose. He had to literally cross his eyes to see it. "Hello! I’m glade you finally woke up, Sleeping Beauty!"

"Who are you?"

The fairy fluttered her wings cheerfully, "I am Navi, The Great Deku Tree has sent me to summon you to him. Isn’t that great?" In response Link sneezed, flinging the unsuspecting Navi across the room. Rubbing his nose he apologized. Shrugging it off she commanded him to get dressed, "We need to get to the Deku Tree as soon as possible."

Slowly nodding Link pulled on his green tunic, strapping the worn leather belt across his waist the would-be hero went in search of his shoes. He found one kicked in the corner of the room, slipping it on he went in search of the other. Navi was lazily circling around eyeing Link’s personal items. A small box of Kokiri toys lay neatly in the corner. Pausing to admire an ivory comb she briefly wondered where he had gotten the material to make it. Link shrugged, still in search of his missing shoe, "I don’t know I’ve had it forever and ever."

"It does not look of Kokiri design," She landed on the handle for a brief resting period, "in fact if you asked me I would say it was from the Hylain Mark-"

"What?" He turned to her.

"Nothing!" She said quickly, leaping off the comb and back into the air. Sweeping under the eating table she spotted something, "Hey! Over here." Link crouched under the table a looked at the area she was pointing to. Ah-ha, his other shoe! "We make a great team!" Navi cheered, Link laughed as he pulled his lost shoe on.

Pulling the curtain aside he tied it around a pole to let the sun in. Fully dressed Link stepped out of his hut, climbing down the skillfully built latter he jumped to the bottom. Looking over his shoulder he found that Navi had followed him the whole way down.

The Kokiri forest was beginning to awaken, the dawn warmed the flowers into blooming. A soft melody played across the leaves to the trees and plants. The earlier risers ere already bouncing around while the lazier children were just beginning to come to life. In the distance the twins could bee seen flinging a thick rope around as their friend tried to jump over it. Raphael just returned from his trip to The Lost Woods, a basket of Pepo fruit swung over his head. A group of boys were chasing each other with pointed branches, while the Shopkeeper was just opening for business.

"Link! You’re awake! Finally!" A familiar voice called. A small girl ran up the walk, her short green hair was held back by a stone headband. The pink fairy following her was trying desperately to keep up with the energetic girl. Saria, Link’s best friend. As she came to a halt her eyes fixed on the blue light that had settled on the tip of her friend green cap. "Is that a fairy?"

He broke out into a grin, "Her name is Navi."

"Oh Link that’s wonderful!" Saria grabbed his hands and jumped up and down, "Now you’re a true Kokiri!"

"Well," He said slowly, a little dizzy from Saria’s bouncing, "I don’t think I’m going to keep her, she just came to summon me to see the Great Deku Tree." Great, more jumping. Link wondered if she had gotten into the Sweet Sugar again.

"This is so cool! It’s not often that a Kokiri is summoned by The Great Deku Tree himself! You are so lucky! Maybe he will give you a present. Mido went to him one and returned with Sweet Sugar." Mido, the Great Mido, was the unofficial ruler in the forest. The only reason he managed to get any power was because of is size and obvious strength. Link was always being teased and mistreated by him, but that wasn’t the reason for his main dislike of the boy. The main reason was the way Mido was always looking at his Saria. If Link were bigger he’d shove the bully into a corner and blacken his eyes so that he could no longer look at his friend, period.

"Link come on." Navi buzzed in his ear, "The Deku Tree is waiting."

Scratching his head he looked at his friend, "Well I have to be going…" Saria jumped to a more straightened stance and nodded knowingly. Passing his friend Link headed down the path that would lead to the Great Deku Meadow. On his way he saw two of his friends, Devon and Tanner in Saria’s yard pulling up weeds. Mumbling about being made to do the job, Link remembered that Mido had promised Saria he’d help her with his yard work. And of course he just made two other people do it for him, typical.

The Great Deku Meadow was just ahead of the small stream that ran into the village from the Lost Woods. Hopping into the freezing water he envied the fact that Navi was easily flying over it. Climbing back onto the ground he rung himself out like a cat, brushing that water out of his hair. The entrance to the Meadow was in sight. And guarded by the Great Mido.

Navi was turning green with excitement, spinning in circles around the boy she tried to hurry him along. "And where do you think your going Mr. No-Fairy?" Mido blocked the entrance with a defiant stance."

Link crossed his arms angrily, "The Great Deku Tree has summoned me, I’m going to see him. I even have a fairy to prove it." Navi floated out in front of Mido’s face.

"What!" The bigger boy cried in disbelief, "Why would The Great Deku want to summon you when he could’ve summoned me?" Link shrugged, "This isn’t funny! I don’t believe you. And even if I did you can’t go in there."

"And why not?"

The question caused Mido to smirk, his black eyes twinkled, "Because its dangerous beyond this point. You need something to defend yourself. You don’t even have the proper sword or even a shield."
