It just doesn't seem to end with this Falco-X (or is it El-Toro?) guy. I had hoped that the issue would be over with when I saw the defamitory remarks about Video Gamer X removed from his site on 6/17, and with that I did decide to send him a mail regarding my foregiveness for what he did. But ironically this just flared up the problem worse. Strange... Well, now on Hyrule: The Land of Zelda's latest update he has said that I have lied about everything involved in the incident, well here's the E-mail I sent him on 6/18/99 to compare to the words spoken on that page: Dear Falco-X,After Reviewing your latest update on Hyrule: The Land of Zelda and the removal of the defamatory comments, I have decided to retract your "Wall of Shame" status and return normalcy to both of our lives. One thing you don't realize it seems is that I am the only REGULAR gamer first that found that code though a lot of work, and all I ask is that people recognize that and give me and T-Dog the credit we deserve for making it happen. Often times people steal tricks that debut on my site and post them on other sites claiming "THEY FOUND IT FIRST!" and in actuality it is a lie. I have no quarrels with "Hyrule: The Land of Zelda" in fact I've always felt it was a good Zelda website for fans and gamers. If I had a whole team of workers at my disposal to create a website then it would probably look like that. The one thing that bothered me was that you didn't simply make the change in a courteous manner. You just wanted to make fun of me and my website because I put on the wall of shame made you look bad. You see, once proper credit is given then that status would have been removed anyway. The reason I created the "Wall of Shame" was because numerous people were copying my website verbatim and claiming it was theirs and so forth. This has been an incessant problem since the site started becoming popular after Zelda first came out. How would you feel if I copyed the entire "Hyrule: Land of Zelda" website and put in on a geocities account and called myself "Falco-X" What would you do? Obviously you would encourage people to E-mail the bozo that was doing it to have him change what he had done. In fact one of your friends [email protected] did this to me months ago, and drastic measures needed to be taken in order to rectify the situation. I hope you do see where I'm coming from in this regard, and understand what "The Wall of Shame" represents - unthoughtful people who desire to capitalize on another person's hard work. That's all. Before I go, I have one question. Is it merely coincidence that many of the Hyrule: The Land of Zelda sections are similar to mine? I never once copied your site but oddly a week or two after I debuted a new section on Odyssey it appeared on Hyrule, hmm...strange. (Don't say Ariana Almondoz aritcle, because we've been over that, I gave you guys COMPLETE credit on that one) But anyway that's not really important. I will be posting a page discussing the fact that you guys decided to finally behave and retract the slanderous information about me. Likewise I will encourage people to give up pestering you and your site about the issue. I hope that this will put an end to the disagreements between us on this issue since it has been cleared up. Be warned though, I will be watching... From the Desk of Video Gamer X Indeed, right after this letter I posted a page regarding the fact that the comments were removed from "Hyrule: The Land of Zelda" and this nonsense was over. Even though he never actually apologized I assumed that this was the case. NO, HE NEVER APOLOGIZED. I assumed he wanted to end his venture of hate on his part by taking the stuff off his website which would have been the sensible thing to do. Likewise I planned to do the same, but then he (or is it El-toro - alter ego? Don't know really.) decided to not let the issue go. Instead he, or someone at Hyrule: The Land of Zelda concocted another tale of "Video Gamer X's lies" and made a new page to vent his own hate/embarrasment?/revenge?. Hmm...Who's the bad guy here? The only reason I made pages about what was being said about me was to show where the accusations were false, and in what ways they were false and to defend my evidence. I have a right to do that. Here's a bit of info you may not realize, I hate to burst his bubble but, this Max fellow he was pointing the finger at was a friend of mine who I worked with to make "The Crossroads of The Mind's Eye" (also a big-time Zelda fan) well over a year ago. He gave up on it, I tried to continue that site, but lost interest as well. He gave me his Internet E-mail accounts and his internet space to do what I wanted with so I started video game websites instead. Some of the mails originating from his account will still have his name on them if they are recieved by people, that is the only way I assume that they managed to obtain his name. Basically their yelling a guy who has nothing to do with the "Odyssey of Hyrule" or myself currently. His screen name used to be "Webmaster X" back in early '98 and late '97 just for the record. Furthermore one of Falco-X's friends went on a spamming campaign attempting to flood old Max's email address (The one on Odyssey) with thousands of erroneous E-mails subjected "Woo-Hoo" and "Don't mess with Falco" from a guy calling himself "Doctor Chaos". This is something I never once did to them or asked another to do because this kind of thing is just plain immature and in bad taste. This is not proper netequette. You know, I don't HATE Falco-X, all that originally asked for was proper credit then he (or was it El-Toro, I'm still confused on that one) decided to start things in the wrong direction by printing that "Hall of Truth" BS and so on and so forth. No I'm not out to be anybody's enemy, nor do I want net "wars." It's really kind of silly when you think about it for this kind of thing to happen. Two webmasters of two of the few best Zelda site's on the net (not trying to be self-egotistical here, but many gamers have told me this regarding both our sites) squabling over this. I hate to say it Falco, but this issue is a dead horse that you seem to want to continue beating. Give it up man. Here's the deal, if he retracts and removes all the slanderous pages about me then I will remove all the pages regarding this incident from my site and we can wipe this incident entirely from the histories of both our websites. You know as well as I do that it doesn't look good FOR BOTH of us if this issue drags on any longer than it already has. It is pointless Falco/El-Toro, wouldn't you agree. Here's another thing, you gamers out there and fans of both our sites have a conscience and have free will to make your own decisions. No one, including myself is forcing you to visit either of our websites or take a side. If you feel happier at one, then hey, that's great! ...or another, that's great too! NO ONE is grabbing you through your computer monitor and saying YOU MUST VISIT "THE ODYSSEY OF HYRULE" or YOU MUST VISIT "HYRULE: The Land of Zelda" Don't let what people say or do sway you into thinking that you are obligated to do what they say. Remember, you're the one clicking that mouse! If you don't like me, or Falco, then you don't have to go to our sites. I truly hope THIS IS THE LAST PAGE on this waste of time incident. Please, Falco. Read this page and put two and two together. Would Link do this? No. By pursuing this course we are losing sight of the good things that make Zelda so great. We are becoming like Ganondorf, letting our personal desires override all that is good. I look forward to your comment in this regard. A simple "I'm Sorry" will suffice, and likewise I will do the same. Until next time, gamers, only you can see the TRUTH. Only YOU can make the right choices. And only YOU can make good things happen. |
