| This story is from Pam Tillis's "All the Good Ones Are Gone." I changed the words a little bit, otherwise, it wouldn't have fit. He'll turn 29 this weekend He'll go out with his guyfriends Drink some marquritas Cut up and carry on Chris walked around a sleazy small town barroom that his friends had dragged him to. He really didn't want to be there, but any chance to get drunk was cool with him. They'll be girls and they'll be come ons He'll probably get hit on But he thinks all the good ones are gone Christy ordered another marqurita, sitting down on a bar stool. "Hey, bored?" she asked the sullen man sitting next to her on another stool. He nodded, looking up to introduce himself. She was beautiful, but 'probably has a million guys after her' he quickly reminded himself. He introduced himself, and ordered another drink. He's got friends down at the office And he can't help but notice That when the day is over How they all hurry home "I'm going find Allison!" Justin announced as soon as they finished the song they were working on. "Justin, can you drop me off at Kadina's?" Joey asked, bounding out after him. Chris watched as his friends left to go home to their families and girlfriends. Sure there's girls he works with Even some he flirts with But he thinks all the good ones are gone "Hey Chris," Christy, their new dancer said walking up and taking a seat next to him. "Wassup?" "Hey Ty!" he smiled at her and they chatted lightly. After he had seen her dancing at the club, he had to hire her. Christy liked Chris a lot, but he had thought she had a boyfriend. She kissed him gently on the forehead, as she walked out. Chris's cell rang and he jumped up to grab it. And his momma called this morning Said I'm worried about my baby I wish you had a family of your own He said 'Mom it's not that easy, You make it sound so simple.' I can't take the first girl who comes along. "Mo-om!" Chris yelled over the phone. He hadn't noticed Christy had walked back in. "No mom. No. Yes. Yes, she did leave. No, I'm not still seeing her." he sighed. "Mom! I can't just up and marry the first girl that smiles at me!" Chris sighed as he hung up the phone. He thought back to his now ex-girlfriend. When they started going out, there were so many girls he liked. Now, he couldn't even find one girl who liked him. And his momma called this morning Said I'm worried about my baby I wish you had a family of your own He said 'Mom it's not that easy, You make it sound so simple.' He can't take the first girl who comes along. "Who was that, Lucky?" Christy asked sitting up, allowing him to sit down. "My mom. She's worried about me not being tied down, or married." he sighed running his fingers through his short brown locks. "Oh," she replied thoughtfully. "So, what's the plans for this weekend? We're off, and you've got a birthday." she said placing an arm cheerfully around Chris's shoulder. "I don't know." Chris shrugged. Suddenly, he realized how much he did like Christy. "Would you, m'lady, accompany me to dinner?" he asked in a heavy middle ages accent, bowing politely. "That I would, my lord." Christy laughed, standing and curtsying, taking his hand. He'll turn 29 this weekend He'll go out with his new girlfriend Drink some marquitas Cut up and carry on |
