I have spent the majority of my life in and around Chicago, the windy world-class
city of the Midwest. I have also lived in Albuquerque
New Mexico, Maryland, and Minnesota. Overseas, I've enjoyed brief periods of time in Sweden, Denmark, England,
Greece, and Italy. The longest period of time was spent in Sweden: about
a year in a study-abroad program, and later in an internship
capacity. When I resided in Santa Fe, NM, my wife Mindi Nelson
contributed to the "Werther" film with still photography and
production. I took classes in drawing, web development, and moving
image arts at the College of Santa Fe. I also worked towards an MA
in Liberal Arts from St. John's College.

My
favorite pastimes in Chicago:
— Cubs games, bleachers, box seats, standing room....you name it!
— Watching indie films at the Music Box Theatre.
— Going to see live theater at the The Goodman Theatre (especially
Dicken's "A Christmas Carol," a Nelson family favorite and tradition),
Steppenwolf Theatre, Trap Door Theatre, Shubert Theatre, The Neo-Futurists,
Lifeline Theatre, Griffin Theatre Co., Bog Theatre, Fourth Wall Productions,
and Second City.
— Intensive 1 year acting program at the Steven Ivcich Studio.
— BA studies in International Business and Economics at North Park College,
now University. I was active with the Theatre department and Tennis Team.
— Visiting brothers Lars at Depaul University and Erik at Lake Forest
College.
— Michael Jordan and the Bulls....I was usually stuck in a smoky
bar with rowdy fans, but it was great anyway.
— The pizza is worth mentioning. Ginos East Pizza, Lou Malnati's
Pizza, Giordano's Pizza, Uno's and Due's Pizza, Oven Grinder's Pizza,
and Edwardo's Pizza. Also, Berghoff, Harry Carry's, Ann Sather's, Greek
Islands, and Andie's restaurant.
— Dancing at various night clubs around the city with friends, beer
and chicken wing specials on weekdays, rollerblading to the lake, and
seeing the cow art exhibition on Michigan Avenue.
One of my strongest interests is learning about movie production and new
media. As a result of this I enjoy watching movies, making movies, talking
about movies, and reading about movies. I want to become more familiar
with what movies have already been made and what themes have been explored.
One of the most important questions I have for myself after experiencing
a movie is "Why did I like the film?" or "Why did I dislike the film?"
It is challenging to develop a strong list of favorite films and have
definitive reasons for why they are your favorites. This is important
to me so that I can develop my own thoughtful approach to moviemaking
and production.
In order to complement my moviemaking interests, I am taking an interest
in new media and CGI (Computer Graphics Imagery) studies. It gives me
great satisfaction to be able to develop artistic material with high-end
visual software tools on the computer. Currently, I am learning web design,
graphic design, motion graphics design, visual effects, and 2D and 3D
animation.
I also enjoy reading literature, plays, philosophy to some extent, mathematics,
foreign affairs, anything related to moving digital art, and magazines
about movies and 3D animation and visual effects.
