Born in 1941, Sadhana migrated to India from Karachi during post-partition riots. Sadhana Shivdasani admired films and so did her family. Her father named her after his favorite actress, Sadhana Bose. Sadhana's family granted her the permission to watch films twice a week. So interested she was in films that this Auxilium Convent and Jai Hind College graduate grabbed the opportunity to act in India's first Sindhi film Abana in 1958. She was paid only Re. 1 for this film. But the lucky star shone on her when S. Mukherji offered her the main lead in the film Love in Simla in 1960. Sadhana introduced the Sadhana Cut - the famous fringe hairstyle and created a new fashion. Sadhana kept on receiving good offers and proved her versatility in films like Hum Dono in 1961, Mere Mehboob in 1963, Rajkumar in 1964 and Waqt in 1965. Out of the 19 films that she did in 1960, 11 were silver jubilees and Sadhana became one of the top actresses. Not only soft romantic roles, she also excelled in suspense thrillers like Wo Kaun Thi in 1964, Mera Saaya in 1966 and Anita in 1967. Some of her co-stars were Shammi Kapoor, Rajendar Kumar, Sunil Dutt and Manoj Kumar.
In 1966 she married her young ' Love in Simla ' director RK Nayyar. There marriage was a happy one and lasted for 25 years or so till his death in the early 1990s. They did not have any children.
Soon after her marriage she encountered a few health problems, mostly related to her Thyroid. She was taken to Boston for treatment and recovered. She did work again after her illness and even gave some more hits, but seemed tired and soon retired with a huge hit: Geeta Mera Naam
while still in her prime , never doing 'old mother' roles . She is still many peoples most favorite Indian actress and recently on a poll in the Indian magazine: film fare was remembered as one of the most popular all time Indian actresses along with Waheeda Rehman and Sharmila Tagore.
