| QUIDDITCH TRYOUTS | ||||||||
| Hello my name is Madam Hooch. I will be instructing you on how to fly a broomstick. This requires no magical incantaion, so you can practice over the summer if you like. Who knows? If you work hard enough, you may be able to try out for the Ballycastle Bats! We will be learning of the history of quidditch. Quidditch was created in Queerditch Marsh. It started out as being a game of only goal scoring. Chasers were the only types of players. Chasers are the oldest position in quidditch for that reason. In those early times the quaffle was made of leather. Later, bludgers were added to the game, but first as flying rocks. The snitch was inspired by a bird called the Golden Snidget. That bird, like the ball, is walnut sized. The snitch flies, the bludger rushes around to knock people off their broomsticks, but the quaffle doesn't move on its own accord at all. Now we will learn about the players of quidditch. The four positions are the seeker, the beaters (2), the chasers (2) and the keeper. Beaters have bats and hit bludgers at players on the other team, Chasers score goals, the Seeker catches the snitch, and the Keepers guards the goal posts. To avoid the bludgers, a particularly useful move is the sloth grip roll. One of my personal favorites. HAVE FUN FLYING!!! |
