How - to Make Tiny Wireframe Wings:
Materials:
Floral wire (the sticks are best, no cutting)
Masking tape
Fabric (something faeish and a bit stretchy)
Marker
Pipe cleaners
Safety Pins
Sewing Machine
Steps:
1. Bend floral wire into figure 8. This works best if done around a beer bottle, no bumps.
2. Tape ends of wire together to complete figure 8 loop
3. Shape wire wings to desired shape (round is nice, but variety is the spice of life)
4. Cut rectangle of fabric twice the wingspan of wireframe (trust me this will all make sense in the end)
5. Lay wireframe on fabric good side up. Center wireframe on fabric and fold ends over to make like a folder for each wing. Trace frame on to fabric (this will be your pattern). Remember to leave a bit of space where your wings meet.
6. Remove frame. Pin top of folder to bottom of folder along marker lines to make a pocket.
7. Sew along pattern lines leaving a space where the wings will meet. This should make two pockets and sort of look like a tiny saddlebags.
8. Turn fabric right side out and slip frame into pockets. (You may have to fold your frame in half for it to fit right. You can readjust later)
9. Adjust frame and wing cover. The best way to do this is to fold wings back a bit towards the openings, this will help to hide them and no weird sewing.
10. Wrap pipe cleaner around wing center to hide openings and slide a safety pin through pipe cleaner layers. Voila!
Notes: I used a floral print fabric so I didn't really decorate with anything. If you use a plain fabric, you can go crazy and glitter, paint whatever.
