The Contributors

Dexter Mejia
GAY son of a forklift operator and schoolteacher, Dexter is a "performance poet" and theater actor. In 1996 he was part of a service crew at a Jollibee outlet. He happens to be a BA English graduate of the "State University" where he became a disciple of the poet/performance artist Vim Nadera.

Emily Paranag
EMILY is a child of Martial Law, having been born the same month and year it was declared by El Dictador. Her fascination with volcanoes comes from one day losing her virginity while swimming in the warm waters of Taal Lake to her first boyfriend Manuel. Her family moved to the U.S. in the early '90s, and she quickly learned how to survive in the Land of the Free with her balisong. She plays lead guitar for a grunge rock band.

Francisco Javier
AT the time Francisco submitted his pieces to 4894, he was 16---a fourth year student at St. Anthony's College in Antique Province, Panay Island. He occasionally writes poetry on his way to turning 17.

IceAngel
SEVENTEEN-year-old Ice is female, living in Quezon City. At the time of her entry submission she was a freshman student of English and literature at some school. Partial to poetry in her reading, she also dreams of someday being published as a poet herself the printed-book way, hoping perhaps to see her name among those nice, smooth, and thin volumes hiding in the "Filipino Writers" shelf at the back of National Bookstore outlets.
