I. What do I have to do becoming a member of EUPATRAS?

II. What are the general conditions to become a EP trainee?

Trainees must:
• (a) hold the nationality of a Member State of the European Union or of an applicant country;
• (b) be between 18 and 45 years of age;
• (c) have a thorough knowledge of one of the official languages of the European Union and a good knowledge of a second;
• (d) not have been awarded any other paid traineeship by, or have been in the paid employment for more than four consecutive weeks of, a European institution or a Member of the European Parliament.

III.] ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF TRAINEESHIPS?

Different types of traineeships exist at the EP : the paid and the unpaid ones.

A. PAID TRAINEESHIPS

Paid traineeships shall be awarded only to graduates of universities or equivalent institutions.

1. Types of paid traineeship offered

Paid traineeships cover:

• Robert Schuman scholarships, general option
• Robert Schuman scholarships, journalism option
• Ram�n y Cajal scientific scholarships.

2. Specific conditions for paid traineeships

(1.) Applicants for a paid traineeship must:

(a) have obtained a university degree after a course of study of at least three years' duration;

(b) submit a written reference from a university lecturer or from a professional person who is able to give an objective assessment of the applicant's aptitudes.

(2.) Applicants for Robert Schuman scholarships, general option, must also have produced, as part of the requirements for a university degree or for a scientific journal, a written paper of considerable length on a subject related to the European Union.

(3.) Applicants for Robert Schuman scholarships, journalism option, must also demonstrate professional experience as evidenced either by works published, or by membership of an association of journalists in a Member State of the European Union, or by the award of a qualification in journalism recognised in the Member States of the European Union or in the applicant countries.

(4.) Applicants for Ram�n y Cajal scientific scholarships must also have produced a written paper of considerable length as part of the requirements for a university degree or for a scientific journal.

B. UNPAID TRAINEESHIPS

Specific conditions for unpaid traineeships

Priority in the awarding of such traineeships shall be given to young people who are required to complete a traineeship as part of their course of study.

The� traineeship may be forecast within the framework:

• of a course at a university or equivalent institution,
• of high-level vocational training organised by a non-profit making body (notably public institutes or bodies),
• of a requirement for access to a profession

IV. HOW LONG IS THE TRAINEESHIP ?

The duration depends of the type of traineeship.

Duration of paid traineeships

Paid traineeships may be not be extended.

Duration of unpaid traineeships

Traineeships may exceptionally be extended for a maximum period of two months.

V. HOW CAN I BECOME A EP TRAINEE ?

People interested in a traineeship at the EP and who fulfill the conditions required have to use a special form available on the EP website : www.europarl.eu.int
