Dr. Chih Wang is professor emeritus at the University of Guam. He was professor
of library science, 1998-2006; and dean of Learning Resources, 1989-1998 at the University. Before serving on Guam, he had been a librarian in many other U.S. academic libraries. Prior to that, he worked in various capacities in Taiwan for many years.
Dr. Wang earned his doctor of philosophy in library science from University of Pittsburgh. He also holds two master’s degrees, a B.A. degree in English literature (summa Cum laude) and a diploma from Chinese Military Academy. In addition, he went through numerous continuing education workshops and intensive trainings in different fields.
Dr. Wang published numerous articles, papers, and Chinese and English essays. His works appeared in scholarly journals and magazines worldwide. Many of these works are collected in his listed monographs.
Dr. Wang was member of many library associations and involved different professional activities before he retired. He chaired, planned, and implemented Guam Governor’s Conference on Library and Information Services in 1990. He was selected to serve on Technology Topic Committee of, and led Guam Delegation to, White House Conference on Library and Information Services held in Washington, D.C. in 1991.
Dr. Wang is married with two children. He has lived a different and challenging life. He immigrated to U.S. in 1970 with only a few U.S. dollars in his hands. He was a platoon leader stationed in the front line during the rain-falling bombardment of August 23, 1957 (known as 823- gun- battle) and barely escaped death at the beach in the bloody battle of Kuningtou battle on Quemoy in December 1949. He also only dodged from being killed for many times in the dense wood, the high sea, and Amoy Harbor when he was running away during the Communists was conquering China in 1949.
