Summary
Tam and Giao are bestfriends with different beliefs in marriages. Tam supports the modern marriage concept by strongly believing in the idea of establishing "love" before discussing marriage. As for Giao, he follows the traditional footstep and let parents make the arrangement. After graduation, the two head home and Tam runs into an old friend, Tram. He immediately falls in love with her and decides to test her feeling by taking a field trip up north for a few months. Back home, Giao's mother asks for Tram's hands in marriage for her son. Tam returns home and is shocked to learn that Tram is getting marry to his best friend in three days. Realizing that it is too late, he doesn't say a word about his feelings for her and wishes them the best.

After marriage, Tram is able to live a peaceful life for several years before tragedy strikes. Listens to his sister reasoning, Giao begins to suspect that his wife is having an affair with Tam. When Tram informs him that she is pregnant...everything falls apart. He kicks her out of the house despite her pleading and explaining that she didn't do anything wrong as a wife. Refuses to listen to anyone, Giao takes off and leaves Tram waiting for ten years. Throughout these years, she refuses to accept Tam's love and vows to be a faithful wife. Caring for Tram, Tam refuses to get marry and turns down Giao's sister. Upon his return, Tram gives Giao their son and dies in satisfaction after getting to see her husband for the last time.

Review
The film depicts the idea of "loyalty" that all characters deserve some sort of appraisal, well except for Giao. While watching this movie I can't help but wonder how stupid could someone be. Even if you would like to accuse someone of something, you better have some kinds of proof to back up your words. Plus, after several years of marriage, Giao should know his wife better than that. This leads to another question of mine, who friggin graduated this guy. I mean how in the world did he get his teaching license when he is apparently so darn stupid! In my opinion, Giao has indirectly kills his wife by slowly suffocating her in sadness for ten years.

As for Tam, can we blame him for the mess...I simply don't think so. All we can blame him for is his pathetic life and it is pratically his fault. Leading a single life is the consequence of him not having the courage to express his feeling. However, no one can stop him from loving a married woman as long as he does not attempt to ruin the marriage. In term of Tram, who did she really love? It would have to be Giao for he is the only man in her life. Did she ever have any feelings for Tam? Probably before her marriage, but that could only be considered as a crush, which died quickly after her husband comes into her life.

In term of the cast, I have to say that Chi Linh did an amazing job in his role. When being given enough opportunity, he is able to show his talent. His on-screen time is about equivalent to Vu Linh's. Although his character did not received a favor from me, he did impress me with his performance.
