Summary
Being framed as a traitor by another court official, Tieu Anh Phung's parents got executed and she escaped the city and became the leader of a group of robbers. However, they followed a righteous morale and worked for the greater good - that's her followers only robbed from the wealthy group and gave it back to the poor. As they became bigger, the news reached the palace and the emperor's sister volunteered to lead the troop in suppressing the robbers.

As two old schoolmates reunited, Anh Phung took Princess Ngoc Chau's advise and dismissed her followers. She returned to the palace and served the emperor. During her first court appearance, she immediately won the emperor's brother's love. Not soon after the two got to know each other, she was sent on an assignment to defeat a group of foreign invaders. After she had successful defended the nation, followed her father's footsteps, Anh Phung was being framed for betraying the country. On the execution day, her thief followers saved her and she returned to the mountain.

At home, the emperor lost the throne to the traitor who framed Anh Phung and her father. Once again, being a loyal general, Tieu Anh Phung allied with the Princess and rescued the royal family. She caught the traitor, cleared her name and married the emperor's brother.

Review
The movie has a good script and a strong cast. Tai Linh was beautiful as "Tieu Anh Phung". Strange enough, I like her better as the Princess in the 1989 version. She was really cute in that role and definitely did a much better job than Thoai My. As for the plot, there are a few parts that can be a little dragging. But the movie is a nice change since Tai Linh has not been appearing in any ancient films for a long time.

What don't I like about the movie? Well, for starters, I didn't quite like Tai Linh's hairstyle. Personally, I think she looks much better with bangs when playing ancient roles. The second criticism would have to be the emperor's brother. How dump was he? I mean, why not trust the woman you love. In my opinion, if someone has doubt about you, then that person doesn't truly love you. In return, he doesn't deserve your love. That means, I don't think Anh Phung should forgive Tong Truong Long. He did literally watch her die and do nothing - if it weren't for her followers, she would have been beheaded. If you asked me, I would have fired that arrow into his chest without a moment of hestitation!
