Congratulations to Dean Saldanha, who finished 2nd at the Canadian Scrabble Championship! Dean went 15-3, +947, finishing first after 18 rounds and placing him in the best-of-five final against David Boys. He eventually fell in four games to Boys, but that doesn't diminish his incredible performance at the tournament. Dean also shared the Michael Wise Good Sportsmanship Award with Joel Wapnick, further bolstering the Saldanha family's reputation for being the most gracious of opponents. Thank you, Dean, for representing our club so well in international competition.

Our first annual fundraising dinner on Sept. 13 was a great success with over 55 people in attendance! Out of town guests included Bill and Barb Kinsella from Chilliwack and Richard Lauder from Wisconsin. The Saldanhas prepared a scrumptious buffet of butter chicken, dahl, chili beef, chapatis and mango mousse. Other highlights included piano playing by James Leong and singing led by Norbert on guitar with Reuvena in accompaniment. The silent auction was very profitable and we were able to raise enough to help Dean and provide assistance for the club. Dean's expenses have now been completely covered and he is studying hard for the big event. Thank you all for your generous support!
