I'm an electronics engineer, working for a communications company. My job is developing hardware and software for satellite control centers.

My interests and hobbies include science fiction, electronics, computers and wood working.

I started like this, but my fingers just don't taste like they used to...

Nevado del Ruiz, near Manizales, Colombia, 1967. Me and my sister at the snowline. In the background you can see the ski lift, which still operated in those days, although not on weekends and holidays. How's that for bad ski-resort management?!
I believe that, at less than five degrees North latitude, this was the lowest latitude ski-resort ever built. Does anybody have any data to confirm or debunk this?
At 4900 meters altitude at the base, nearly 5400 at the summit, it was one of the highest, but not as high as Mt. Chacaltaya, in Bolivia, which is at 5300 meters altitude at the base.
In 1985 here occurred one of the worst volcano eruptions of all time, in terms of lives lost (23000). I believe it has been closed ever since, because I can't imagine that even Colombians, with their known appreciation for violence, would dare to ski down an active volcano crater...

My dad at 18, me at 18. Isn't it amazing the progress made by Mankind in the 20th Century?

Big Bear, California, Thanksgiving 1991. The slope is closed for the night, time to go get some refreshment!

Monaco, September 2002. Yes, as you can see in my left hand, I drink San Pellegrino, too, but moderately. Drinking should be done in moderation, you know.

Cheers... Hic!
