| Well, I beat this game up good. Yunalesca? I laughed and wondered how Auron had a problem with her. Jecht? That's a good one. It was definately one of the easiest RPG's I have ever beaten. I couldn't understand why people had trouble with this game. One of my friend's can't beat it. Another friend warned me about bosses that I smoked. On message boards, people consoled one another after becoming accustomed to the "Game Over" screen. Why did this game's difficulty barely even phase me? Oh yeah, maybe it's because I leveled up for almost 16 hours of my 42 hours of gameplay. That's a lot of levelin'. There's gotta be something about this game that drove me to do that. First off, let's talk about the story. At times, I felt that it got to be overly-convoluted due to Auron. Don't get me wrong, Auron may be the best part of the entire game. But when he starts talkin' about making your own "story" during the beginning of the game, it gets more confusing than neccesary. Thankfully, everything comes together in the middle of the game, and a quick pace keeps things going. I liked the way Tidus occasionally "talked" to Sin like he was just talking directly to Jecht, but their love/hate relationship was way too dramatic. The characters are all fleshed out very well, due to the story and the fact that they can now talk. This adds another dimension to the game. It's satisfying to know that Tidus really is as whiny as he looks and Auron really does rock. Plus, it doesn't hurt that all three main female characters aren't hard on the eyes. Like most, I began as a Rikku fanatic, but the more I played, the less I like her, and the more Lulu and Yuna appealed to me. It sounds kind of sick now, dreaming about women made of mere polygons, but Square has worked their magic again. For anybody that has played the game, I really don't need to go into much detail about the graphics. Yes, they're amazing, with facial expressions and voice acting, and the FMV's are movie quality. Only the occasional fixed-camera angle detracted from the entire package, though at times the camera helped with sweeping side views and 360 rotations around the characters. None of the music really stuck with me in the game. The song that plays during the opening sequence and when Tidus is swimming underwater with Yuna is very standard FF fare. Long, feminine, and sappy, it served it's purpose, but it won't drive you to tears. The new and improved battle system kicks. It's great that they have each character suited for a different type of enemy (Wakka takes down flying enemies, etc.). It's also great that they got rid of the ATB (Active Time Battle) system. It never bothered me too much until I went back to it after playing FFX. Being able to take time and plan ahead helped, but most importantly, you could see when both your characters and the enemies were able to take their turn, making for a lot of strategory. When I finished the game, I thought it was great (the ending, that is). Looking back on it, I find it now to be short, predictable, and not nearly as emotional as many said it was. Compared to the other game's endings, it doesn't hold a candle. But looking back at the game in general, I don't have anything really bad to say about it. When I played it, I was addicted. It has come and gone, but will remain as one of my favorite RPG's of all time. |
