Visualization News – January 2002

Hello and welcome back as we enter 2002! Time flies, I tell you! At any rate, it is time for more chit chat about fantasy, and this time we are putting it to work. I recently began exploring fantasy as a means of healing and helping yourself. This came out of a problem I was coming up against as a byproduct of my visualization. My intense fantasy life was actually making me feel very uncomfortable. I realized that I was generating intense feelings through my fantasies, but they were only adding to a sense of lack of fulfillment.

There was a growing feeling of desperation and pain behind my fantasy life. I was discouraged to think that I would have to curtail my fantasies, but inner source led me to some interesting new work. We are all plagued, to one extent or another, with unfulfilled desires. Dreams and fantasies can turn to torture if we feel like they will never come to pass. But, I found that it is actually the nature of the fantasy itself, which contains the seeds of discontent or satisfaction.

It is not an uncontrollable x-factor of the fantasy, but a part of the equation that can be controlled and managed. If you are willing to be flexible in the content and direction that the fantasy takes, you can have a fulfilling and rewarding fantasy experience. Not only that, but you can generate fantasies who’s content is not predetermined, that have the effect of healing various psychological ills.

The first step is to establish yourself as a Spirit self in a Spirit environment. If you are not familiar with Spirit, please go to the Spirit page on my main site, at www.geocities.com/visualizenews/ for a background description. You can imagine the Spirit environment as looking like the physical but being idealized. It is an environment of consciousness. You can pick and choose your experiences at this level, which is why we are beginning here.

So, see yourself as being in an environment made of consciousness, in a body that is made of consciousness, and where you can choose your experiences freely. You will begin by determining the nature of the fantasy that you wish to have. If you simply want a fulfilling fantasy, rather than one that leaves you feeling deprived, you can begin by determining the basic idea or framework that you want. The more flexible you are about the content, the more likely it is that you will receive a deep level of fulfillment. Now, you will make a transition from your current state into the fantasy. You state your intention to enter into a fantasy about ___ that is deeply fulfilling; you will reach that state in a count of one to ten.

You begin by counting from one to five slowly, as a Spirit being. Your environment fades out, and by the time you reach five, you are in a gray zone, with a neutral identity. This means that your previous identity is wiped out and you are just in a limbo-like state. Then, you count from six to ten, slowing emerging from a cloud of fog into a distinct state. When you completely emerge, there will be a scene around you and you will have a different identity. This is an important step.

Take a moment and ask yourself some questions. Who are you? Where are you? What is going on? What do you want? This will help create the story and the context. Your new identity will have no problem in answering these questions. The greater your understanding of your new identity, the more you will be able to get into that identity and explore it. Now, you simply live out the story line of your new self.

There are several possible ways you can customize this process a bit to help you out. First of all, if you do not specify the duration of the fantasy, it can last a very long time. So, before you enter the fantasy, it might be helpful to specify if you want the fantasy to be brief, moderately long, long, or ten minutes, or whatever length of time. You won’t get the benefits of the experience unless you live the full fantasy through until the end. So, keep that in mind.

Also, you may tend to want to rush through the fantasy and get to all the “good parts.” That will also undermine your experience; be patient and reap the full rewards. Also, you need to specify if you want the full fantasy to be a single unit of time, in other words a ten minute experience and then it is over, or do you want an ongoing cumulative fantasy that you can pick up and then drop and pick up again over and over again. In that case, you constantly reap the benefits, there is not set time limit, and the fantasy can be extended indefinitely. It all depends on what you want. Just be clear about all this right before you enter the fantasy. I usually use a one-time fantasy with a brief to moderate duration.

If you wish to have a healing experience in your fantasy, or to get help in solving a problem, or get yourself out of a rut, etc., you will use the same basic procedure provided above. Simply state what you want and leave the content of the fantasy as open as possible.

You may find yourself surprised at what comes up in your fantasies. The sense of fulfillment or healing is not usually complete until you take the experience out into your waking life for a while and integrate it. So, give it time. But you should experience some measure of relief. I find that major problems require regular ongoing work to resolve. There is a certain effort-benefit ratio here. But it is a very effective method for healing and helping.

This is only speculative, but I would not be surprised if you could use this technique to heal problems that are partially or completely outside of oneself, such as relationship problems and stress-related illness in others. It is certainly worth of some experimentation. Please remember that it possibly unethical to treat people for their illnesses if they have not asked for healing, so please ask for permission before attempting to use this technique to heal others.

That is all for this month, and I wish you all the very best for the coming year. Please let me know what you are doing and send me some feedback, as it will be mucho appreciated! Bye!

Take me home!

Visualization News – February 2002

Hello y’all and welcome back! Today I will approach a complex and interesting topic, which is unification of multiple identities. I will discuss several techniques that can be used to explore this idea, both with real and imaginary relationships, and I will discuss some ideas that have come out of my own work. In the realm of the imaginary, anything is possible. We can unify our identity with another person’s and experience that new, single identity that encompasses both our own and the other person’s total life experiences. In this unification, nothing is lost, in terms of identity.

The whole of you and the whole of the other person is captured under a single identity, with two pasts. This new identity is not human, but something better, perhaps best described as a being from a higher level of experience. Wisdom, charisma, intelligence and all other positive attributes are all enhanced, while negative traits are nullified in one person if they have been overcome by the other person. So the process is wholly positive. What is the point of exploring this? Well, it is, in a certain sense, the end result of love. The process is best started with an exploration of both people of their unified self, coming back to their separateness. The next exercise accomplishes this.

Exercise #26: Partial unification of multiple identities

In this exercise, you begin by choosing a partner to explore with. This can be an imaginary version of a real person, or a totally imaginary character. This should be someone you like and wish to explore on a deeper level. Begin by being in the imaginary physical world with them. Sit facing each other on a bed or the floor. Enter into a mental space where you are not in your bodies, but are together in an imaginary space. Sit down and hold hands. Choose one person to be the “receiver” and the other will be the “sender”.

The sender’s consciousness will dislocate from their body and will flow through their right hand and into the left arm of the receiver, and then into their body, mixing identities. They will be privy to each others’ thoughts and feelings and experiences fully, but will not be a single new identity as yet. Explore what you perceive from this vantage point. Then, flow out of the receiver’s body and back into the sender’s body. What did you feel? Was the sensation positive? What insights were you able to garner from this? Try the flow process again and answer any questions that are still outstanding about the other person.

You may experience a greater feeling of understanding and closeness with the other person. In an imaginary relationship, where you are trying to increase your mutual love and understanding, this process is very fulfilling and can really bring you closer. If the person has misrepresented themselves to you, however, you may also experience disappointment. But, if you want to work past that disappointment and deepen the relationship, it can do that also.

Exercise #27: Total unification of multiple identities

Repeat the process in exercise #26, until you get to the point where you are in the imaginary space with your partner, holding hands. Separate from this position and create a body that will represent your identities unified into a single being. One person holds one hand of this new being, and one holds the other. Both circulate their identities into the new identity/body simultaneously. When this is formed, and you can experience yourself entering this state from either person’s vantage point, the new identity has one mind, one identity and two pasts. The new identity combines and strengthens positive attributes of both people, but cancels negatives from one person to another. Take some time to experience being this joint identity. What new perceptions do you have about your life? Really give it some time and consideration. Then explore the other person’s life.

Keep notes on your observations gleaned during these experiences can be helpful, as insights gained can be ephemeral. Try to take notes with an eye toward using the new information in future fantasy/meditation/visualization work.

If you wish to explore this process with a real person, then I would suggest by beginning the process independently. Both of you should start with the two fantasy exercises above, and explore each other on that level. Then, after taking notes, compare notes and observations. The next exercise is to help you bring that unified state to bear on your physical relationship.

Exercise #28: Merging of identities

This exercise starts by assuming you have done the above two exercises already with your partner as your fantasy partner, and have explored those states and have taken notes. Now, we can explore the second level, which is an attempt to impact your real feelings for each other during a limited period of time. Both people involved need to be somewhat experienced in inner work, and at very least, able to achieve a degree of deep relaxation at will, or enter into a light self-hypnotic trance. You both need to have enough flexibility of consciousness to alter your state of awareness.

This being established, you should get comfortable sitting, facing each other at a fairly close range. Look at your partner and make eye contact. Agree to count out loud from two hundred down to one at a moderate pace. When you reach one, you will both be in the unified identity state. Obviously, this will be an imaginary state superimposed over your real limitations, but the impact you your state of consciousness may be quite profound. I have not had a chance to use this technique per se, but I have used a variation on multiple occasions that was very successful. When you reach one, reestablish eye contact and get a feel for the state you are in. Talk and exchange observations. Takes notes afterwards if you wish.

I hope that if you are able to try this technique and have some observations on how well or poorly it went for you, that you will drop me a line and let me know how it went.
