John was the kind of man that tried not to cry in 
front of people that often. When he did cry, it made 
you want to cry as well.

I saw him sitting there in the waiting room. I saw 
his face in his hands and I saw him trying to make 
sure no one could tell he was crying.

It was hard for me not to cry.

It was a shame that two people so completely perfect 
for each other would never have the chance. I'd seen 
the way they'd looked at each other. I'd seen John's 
face when he'd heard Monica had been hit by that 
drunk driver. I'd seen a lot of things. I'd seen a 
lot of chemistry between a lot of people.

But Monica and John remind me of Mulder and I.

One has the open mind; will believe you if you tell 
them there's a giant killer cat on the loose, out to 
get them; the other looks for the rational 
explanation. Gets all the facts first.

Such a perfect match. They're so different…but God 
they're in love.

Only this time the sexes have been switched.

I decided it would be best to go talk to John. Try 
to be of some comfort.

I sat next to him.

"There is no justice." John mumbled. I could hear him 
crying.
Pain shot through my heart, reminding me of a talk 
Mulder and I had shared when I'd lost a close one. 
Melissa.

"You know, John. Agent Mulder told me once that…that 
it isn't about justice. It's about fate."

"I'll never get to touch her again. I'll never get to 
see her smile or hear her laugh or look into her eyes. 
And…"

I looked at poor John.

I saw so much of Mulder and I in them.

So much.

"I'll never get to tell..." he trailed off but I knew 
what he was going to say.

"I know, John."

"That's just something we have to live with," I said 
quietly. "It's a way of life."
"I love her. I do. I did. I always will."
"If you just keep loving her than she'll never really 
leave."
