Author's Note: Yep. *** Reyes *** Raspberry's Bar 2:58 AM It's too easy to lie to other people about being in love. But you can't lie to yourself. I learned that the hard way. With me sitting here next to John in this bar, looking at us, no one would merely suspect that only a few years earlier I had been placing my lips gently on his as a comfort to the death of his son. The bar was quiet-more of a gentleman's club than a bar. John and I sat at the bar, closer than friends should have been sitting. We were facing each other, with my right leg sitting in between his legs and my left leg touching his right leg. I didn't trust myself in this position-not after I'd had a few good rounds. John didn't seem to mind how close we were sitting. "So what do you have planned for the weekend?" I asked, picking up my beer bottle and taking a sip. "The usual." "And that would be?" I smiled. John's smile turned into a kind of sad smile. "We don't know all that much about each other, do we, Monica?" "Not personally, really, I guess." I said. "That's too bad." Staring into John's eyes was like looking at the sky. They were so blue. A silver blue. I could feel John's breath on my neck now. His mouth was moving closer. As much as I hated to, I broke the moment and said, "We better go." "Sure." I paid for the drinks and smiled at John. I was tempted to grab his hand and lead him outside instead of just walking with him, but I knew I couldn't. Too bad I don't have any will power. He seemed kind of taken back as I took his hand, but he didn't resist. It felt warm against my hands, and I had to wonder if mine were cold to him. We just stood there in the bar for a moment staring into each other's eyes before I led him outside. We were silent-but it was a comfortable silence. The rain was falling heavily, but I made no move to run for cover or anything. We'd had a few too many beers to be driving. But I made no move to hail a cab. "Monica," he said. "Monica." "Yes John." I looked up at him. His hair was beginning to stick to his forehead. Water dripped from his nose and eyelashes. "What are we doing?" "You tell me." "I can't…we can't-" "Shh," his lips were soft against my finger. "Just shh." His hand moved from mine and stroked wet hair from my face. His hands cupped my cheeks and pulled me in. Energy rushed through my body. No. Not now, John. You're not going to play gentle with me. Not after this long. I moved my mouth into his. On instinct I used my tongue to gently prod his mouth open. This felt so good. His mouth was warm and his tongue was soft against my lips. Rain fell on us, making the experience more exhilarating. As soon as it ended, his hands fell back to his sides and I smiled at him. "Want to share a cab?" "Sure." *** FIN ***
