Summary: Doggett and Reyes get assigned to a case to find a little girl's
missing family, but while investigating Doggett gets lost and Reyes
must find him before it's too late.
Author's comments: Please let me know how well I did if I sucked do tell
me but if I didn't leave feedback and I'll write more fiction.
Spoilers: Doggett and Reyes romance, action and adventure.


Part 1

Meet Kara

   Doggett and Reyes stepped into the small room which Mulder and Scully
always used to show film slides. Doggett begins by putting the videotape
into the VCR. Kara a thirteen year old girl with long blonde hair
approached the camera. She was all alone in a dark room and she was
crying.

"Mom,Dad, and Jeremy and Todd disappeared hours ago , I'm all alone,
I'm scared and I'm hungry.  I want to go Home." She keeps crying. "I'm
trapped and I think I'm going to be next."

Doggett shuts off the tape. "That was thirteen year old Kara. The only
one found barely alive. She's supposed to meet us in about 15 minutes.
Her family is still missing but I think she can tell us more about
what happened."

Reyes nodded. "How did they find her?"

Doggett: "She was brought in the hospital by some old man barely alive.  
Luckily she recovered."

The door opens and in walks another agent bringing in Kara. "They would
like to see u now," he whispers and closes the door.

Kara walks in stares at the two agents at the table and takes a seat.

Monica walks over to her. "Hi u must be Kara the girl from the video tape.  
I'm Monica Reyes and this is John Doggett, would u like something to eat
or drink?" She feels sorry for the girl.

The girl: "No thanks."

Doggett paces around. "So Kara tell us how ur family disappeared."

Kara looks at the two of them then speaks up. "We were on our summer 
vacation.  We were suppose to go to WallysPark."

Reyes looks at her. "WallysPark?" raises an eyebrow.

Kara: "It's an amusement park like Disneyland."  Reyes nodded and gave 
her the look that said keep going.

"Anyhow, Dad wanted to make a stop and then all of a sudden the van 
broke down we were stuck their the rest of the night."

Doggett: "There wasn't anyone around huh?"  Kara shook her head.

Reyes: "That must have been scary for you."  Kara nodded.

Monica glanced a look towards Doggett he glanced back they knew it was
going to be a long day.

Part 2

They sat and continued to listen to Kara telling them what happened.

Kara: "Dad was the first to disappear then Jeremy. They were suppose
to go for help since there was a store about 8 miles away."

Monica: "And?" encourages her to continue.

Kara sighs. "Hours passed and they never returned. Mom, me and Todd 
were the only ones left."

Doggett looks over at her. "When did mom and Todd disappear?"

Kara: "Well mom thought she'd go and find some food at a nearby abandoned
store but then she was gone for hours too that's when Todd decided he'd go
look for mom.  By night time none of them returned and I was all alone." 
Kara sniffs and Monica hands her a tissue box.

Doggett: "How did you survive Kara?"

Kara looked at him her eyes red from crying. "I remained inside the old
house for several days. Some old man found me and brought me here. I
never saw him again, and my family's still gone."

Doggett goes over to her. "We're going to find your family Kara,
hopefully they're still alive. Do you have someone who you can stay with
until then?"

Kara nodded. "With Grandma."

Monica hands the little girl her private business card. "Here's a card
so you can contact me anytime be sure to call if you remember anything
else ok?"  The girl nods she walks out the door.

Doggett: "I feel sorry for the poor thing she's too young to lose a 
family."

Monica nodded in agreement. "So when do we leave?"

Doggett: "First thing tommorow morning at the crack of dawn I want the
entire ghost town searched."

The next afternoon Doggett and Reyes arrived at the deserted town around
lunchtime. Leaving their rental car unattended, the agents began to
explore looking for the lost family.

Doggett: "Anyone here?" he yelled loud enough for anyone to hear.  No
reply came back.

Monica stood beside him also yelling. "This is the FBI we're here to help!"

Still nothing. They started their search by going into the deserted
shops.

Doggett: "Maybe we need to split up."

Monica: "Great idea we just might find them better that way. I search this 
way and you search over there."

Doggett nodded and went searching his direction. Monica walked into
what looked like an abandoned restaurant.

She shined her flashlight one that she always carried and yelled again
making herself heard. "Hello! This is the FBI, anyone in here?"

Still no answer. "Weird," she thought "How would anyone abandon a small town
and vanish into then air?"

Doggett walks around several buildings hollering around in case anyone
might still be alive. Suddenly without warning the ground beneath
Doggett collapses.  He screams falling all the way down. He lands hard on
a ledge his breath knocked out from the fall.  His entire world goes
black.


2 hours later

Doggett regains consciousness, finding himself in a dark hole of some kind 
which looked like an old mine cave.  He begins to look around, letting his 
eyes adjust. It appeared he was definately in a dark cave which had been 
abandoned for years maybe centuries. Doggett squinted his eyes.  He saw a 
ladder up ahead.  It was old and some of the rings were broken but it would 
do.

He had to get to Monica before sunset.  He could leave her alone in that
place, not knowing what might get her. He started to climb the ladder.  
While he was doing so he kept hearing a loud monstrous roar. Suddenly
he slipped falling hard on his back again.

Ignoring the pain in his back he continued climbing the ladder.  Once he
got up top, he began screaming for Monica.  "Monica! I need help!"

Doggett kept hollering.  He smelled something that smelled so horrible he
could make out what it was it smelled like rotted eggs he guessed.  Doggett 
kept screaming.

Monica keeps looking around the restaurant . Finding nothing she gets
bored fast and worries about John he had been gone for hours  and the
sun was setting.  She didn't want to be alone in this frickin' place it
gave her chills she wondered what he had found.

She walked determined to find her partner. How dare he leave her alone
like this?

She turned her flashlight back on and began walking around some more it
had grown dark now and no one was around.  "John?  It's me, Monica!
John!"

Still no answer from him. Growing impatient and hungry she keeps
searching.  Suddenly she sees a big hole in the ground from what looked
like someone fell in.  She pointed her flashlight down in it.

"John! It's me Monica!  Are you in there?"  Her heart was pounding she 
was afraid she'd find him dead.

To her surprise he was indeed in there she hoped to God she wasn't too late.

"John!" she yelled again she almost began to panic.

Doggett looks up and sees her, is relieved. "Mon I think I've found
something!" He stares at the 4 dead bodies near him.  It was the bodies
of the girl's family.  Something or someone had eaten them alive.

"Monica come down here quick!" he yells.

Monica: "What did you find?" She jumps down the hole and lands beside him.

Doggett: "The family of the little girl she said there were 4 of them."

Monica glanced over at the bodies and almost got sick to her stomach. "How 
can you prove it's them?"

Doggett: "I'm sure it's them.  Mon something unreal is in this cave
something ate them alive."  He shudders.

Monica began to smirk. "Are you saying that some monster ate these
people? God, now you sound like Mulder.  They could have been down
here for years."

Doggett: "That's what I don't think happened we need to send some people
down here and collect the bodies I want Agent Scully to do autopsies on
them.  But Mon something in this cave is unreal unhuman."

Monica: "Well let's not stick around to find out what it is let's get you
out of here."  She begins to climb the ladder. She starts to smell something. 
"Ewwwwwww what the hell is that smell ugh!"  She nearly gags.

As they start climbing they hear the huge loud roar.

Monica: "We need to hurry climb faster John!"

Doggett does and they almost reach the top when the monster approaches
them it looked like a big glob of green with eyes and a huge mouth.

Monica: "John hurry!"  She shouts.

Doggett stares at the monster getting a good look at it.  It was so ugly.  
It leaps to eat Doggett.

Monica gets angry at the monster she pulls out her gun. "NOOOOOO! Don't
eat my lover!" she accidently blurts out and shoots the hideous thing.  
"You frickin' bastard!"

The monster roars in pain and goes back down long enough to let them
escape.

"Hurry John!" Monica yells reaching the top they finally make it up top
and Monica helps pull him up, then holds him in her arms glad he's safe
and sound.


Later that day.........

Doggett and Monica sit in a local coffee shop they each had coffee
together and requested backup to collect the family's bodies.

Over coffee Monica looked at Doggett. "What are you thinkin John?" she
smiles.

Doggett looks at her blushing. "You saved my life today I usually save
yours."

Monica: "Yeah, but you were the one in trouble and screamin like a 
sissy," she jokes.

Doggett raises his eyebrow "I'm a sissy?  By the way I heard about what
u said when we were down there.  I'm your lover?"

Now it was Monica's turn to turn red.  She sits in silence collecting
her thoughts.  "I want you to be my lover  I care for you John and I'll 
be damned if I'd let anything happen to you."

Doggett smiles, thinks she's amazing.  "Do you want us to be more than
friends?"

Monica: "Yes I do I've wanted this for a long time. But it's up to you."
She scoots closer to him, her lips inches from his. She runs her hand
along his cheek.

Doggett: "I've never knew you thought of me romantically before. I always
thought you had a thing for A.D. Follmer."

Monica laughed. "What makes you think that?"

Doggett turned red. "I caught you kissing him one day in the office."

Monica: "I don't love him at all the only time I do that is when I need 
to get something I want." She looks at him smiling. "Really John I only 
have eyes for you."

Doggett: "I-I-I can't do this." He sighs feeling nervous.

Monica: "Doggett you have to let me in you can't keep avoiding people all
ur life things just happen its something we all go through. You have a 
second chance with me."

Doggett: "But I don't want to fail you."

Monica smiled. "Oh you won't John, you won't." She pulls him close and
begins to kiss him.  He is shocked but returns the kiss.

The next day they walked into Scully's Morgue where she was working.

Monica: "What did you find Agent Scully?"

Scully looked up and smiled. "You guys were right these indeed are
Kara's family.  I did autopsys on all four of them.  You should call 
Kara's grandma and notify her."

Doggett: "What caused their death?"

Scully: "They fell in the hole in which you found them in.  Whatever was
down their ate them alive flesh and all."

Doggett flashed Monica a I told you so look.  He grinned.

Monica: "So what does this mean Agent Scully?"

Scully:  "That whatever's down there will keep eating and hunting its
prey."  She puts the sheet over the dead bodies and looks at Doggett and
Monica smiling.  "It means, Agent Reyes, that we're not alone in this 
world after all."

Doggett and Monica just stared at each other in silence.
