Your Father liked Dhanamma's Veena very much. He enjoyed and appreciated our family's music always. He used to sing very well. I listened to him a lot. He must have trained a lot of students. I know all that. But, it is some time since I saw him. How long is it since he passed away? (I answered, about 10 years). Yes, it is recently, I know, it came in the papers, I saw that.

I was quite young when he used to come to Dhanamma's house. He used to come to the Friday Veena concerts at her house. He would talk very well with Dhanamma. He alone knows Dhanamma's expertise. He would listen very well. Dhanamma had great respect for him too.

He was a very knowledgeable man. He would not like and listen to today's music. He would talk very well… I know that. He sings very well. He learnt from Tiger and sings in Tiger's weighty Bani. I listened to him a lot. I don't remember the particulars of the concert but I listened to many of his Kutcheries. He appreciated our music only because he had the knowledge to understand. Otherwise, if one does not have the knowledge, they cannot appreciate the way we sing.

(Mukthamma talks generally about other things and how the standard of music has deteriorated and is commercialized. She sings 2 Padams in the ragas, Mohana and Begada for me!)

(Sent a Thank-You card and a personal letter along with the picture of Mukthamma taken during the interview - June 2001)
