Hello! Welcome and thank you for visiting Globalhandcrafts.com.

I have been collecting tribal Persian rugs for over 15 years. Unlike the 'city' or commercially produced rugs, these tribals are usually made for use by the villagers. The rugs have very unique designs. Each has symbols that are characteristic of the village where the rug was woven. Their dozar or seccadeh sizes fit very well in any living or bedroom.

The rugs are between 25 to 50 years old and the young age does not take away their beauty. Once again these are rugs I am proud to own and show in my own home. For the first time a handful of my private collection is for sale. For years I have enjoyed them. Now you can.

Afshar

This rug is from the Afshar region. The rug is laid out in diamond compartments with flowers in each of them. The pallete of colors are bright all over the rug including the borders. There is some patinated green color which is rare for tribal rugs. Part of the selvedge on the lower left of the rug has come loose and needs to be re-secured. Other wise the rug is in excellent condtion.

Item #: Afshar. Single wefted, cotton base. Size about 5ft 2 ins by 6 ft 9 ins.

Bakhtiari

Most Bakhtiari rugs are very floral in design. This one is unusual because it has an asymmetric geometric pattern making it like an abstract painting. The abrash is in the madder reds. The border design is very typical of rugs from the village of Bakhtiar.

Item #: Bakhtiari. Single wefted, cotton base. Size about 4 ft 7 ins by 7 ft 1 ins.

Quchan

This rug has the double-headed animal motif each filled with pointed stars. The light beige field is also filled with trees, birds and other animals. The goat-hair warps and the woollen wefts makes for a very strong wearing rug. Tightly woven for oustanding design clarity.

Item #: Quchan1. Double wefted, wool base. Size 4 ft 1 in by 5 ft.

Jozan Saruq

An expert rug dealer suggests this is a Jozan Saruq and not Karaghan which is much further north. Jozan lies between Hamadan and Arak near Malayir. The best rugs of the group come from Jozan, a name often used for rugs of the whole area. Birds and animals feature in this rug. The double headed bird is likely a crane anchoring the central medallion. The different style crane suggests male and female. The border has a distinctive Jozan Saruq design. Generous use of colors against a blue-black small central field makes this rug very collectible.

Item #: Jozan Saruq. Single wefted, cotton base. Size 4 ft 2 ins by 6 ft 6 ins.

Uzbek

The design is Turkoman, the weavers, Uzbek. Dark brown wool foundation with a repetitive Turkoman gul tightly woven for fine design clarity. The wool is fine but course allowing for much wear. Kilim edges to the fringe are also decorated.

Item#: Uzbek. Double wefted on wool base. Size 4 ft 10 ins by 6 ft 2 ins.
