Good sound has long been a JVC hallmark, and the RX-778VBK delivers open, wide, and dynamic audio from both digital and analog sources, including its surprisingly natural and low-noise phono stage. The receiver owes a good deal of its performance to niceties such as discrete outputs and high per-channel power. The RX-778V is equipped to decode four-channel Dolby Pro Logic--perfect for enjoying many prerecorded VHS tapes and much television programming. Infinity's SS 2003 set falls precisely in the middle of the company's Sterling Series of stereo and home theater speakers. Attractive in look and price, well-made, and very good sounding, we were impressed by this speaker's quality and value. The SS 2003s produce a large soundstage with a rich and balanced presentation. Imaging is spot-on, and the speakers convey an impressive sense of three-dimensionality for a moderately priced model. For the price of a single compact disc you can get the Koss TD 60 headphone and earbud combo. And while the TD60s may not be the last word in high-fidelity headphones, we found them to sound quite decent considering their ridiculously low price.
