OUR FAVORITES
*************
Sony MHC-MC1 home audio system with 50+1 CD changer
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000JXUZ/entertainmentsit
The package may be small, but the sound is big, especially
if you dig rock & roll and dance music. Three-way
bass-reflex speakers, combined with 80 watts per channel,
deliver wall-banging audio for those who like to shake. With
its 51-disc-capacity CD changer and wide array of
programming options, you can load the system with your
favorite tunes and categorize them for easy access. The
AM/FM tuner, dual-well cassette deck with auto reverse, and
optical digital-audio output for a music source like
minidisc, makes Sony's MHC-MC1 audio system extremely
versatile.

KLH PSW8100-8 powered subwoofer
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000J3Q8/entertainmentsit
More often than not, "entry level" is a catch phrase that's
overused in home-theater speak, particularly when it comes
to subwoofers. That said, this entry-level sub meets our
price/performance criteria. Unlike many inexpensive
subwoofers that serve up boomy, out-of-control bass, this
KLH model stays within its limits. When properly adjusted,
the 8-inch driver and 100-watt built-in amplifier add
low-frequency realism to the 5.1-channel surround-sound
movie experience.

Philips CD-C735 5-CD changer
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000JFEP/entertainmentsit
If you're reluctant to shell out a couple of big bills for a
new CD player, we suggest you give this model a whirl.
Philips has always kept its eye on budget-minded consumers,
and this five-disc carousel changer gives you basic CD
capability and decent sound at an affordable price. In
addition to random play, you can program up to 32 tracks.
You can change up to three CDs without interrupting the
music, and the player comes with a remote control that lets
you perform basic functions like skip disc and track, stop,
and, of course, play.

TOP OF THE LINE
***************
Denon DMD-1000 home-component minidisc player/recorder
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000K1TN/entertainmentsit
If you're looking for a high-quality minidisc recorder with
analog and digital inputs and outputs and extensive
recording and editing features, look no further--Denon's
DMD-1000 packs all this into one elegant deck with all the
trimmings. With three digital-audio inputs (one optical and
two coaxial) and 20-bit, 8x oversampling analog-to-digital
converters, you'll be set to make quality recordings from
CD, DAT, DVD, cassette, radio, and even LPs. A jog dial
advances you to previous and succeeding tracks as well text
characters (for disc and track titling) with ease. The
DMD-1000 also comes with an easy-to-read display, dual
record modes, and stereo as well as mono audio--convenient
for eliminating FM static or surface noise on monaural LPs.

EXCEPTIONAL VALUE
*****************
GPX C3860 portable CD player with bass boost
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000J1SI/entertainmentsit
For less than a cheap pair of sneakers, you can have music
on the go with this little CD player. In addition to its
cool, metallic-looking paint job, it's loaded with options
including shuffle, repeat, skip, search, set, stop, pause,
and play. You can also program tracks in the order you
prefer. We liked the LED display, and the bass-boost option
gives an added push to the sound. The portable player comes
with an extremely light pair of headphones and volume
control, and includes a battery-saving feature that turns
the unit off a few seconds after a CD stops playing.

INNOVATIONS
***********
Advent AW870 wireless powered speakers
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000J1QV/entertainmentsit
We were pleased with the convenience of Advent's wireless
speakers, which are great for tricky-to-wire spots like the
rear-mounted surround speakers in a home-theater setup. The
sound reproduction is comparable to a good FM radio signal.
The system includes two identical speakers with their own
power and volume switches. The transmitter, which plugs
into a wall outlet, connects to a music source, like a CD
player, with standard RCA jacks. Along with built-in
15-watt amplifiers, each speaker has left, right, and mono
switches that simplify setup. They can also be battery
operated (which does limit the acceptable listening
distance).

BESTSELLERS
***********
Sony ICF-C233 AM/FM Dream Machine clock radio
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000K1QT/entertainmentsit
Who wants to hear a buzz when you can listen to music after a
healthy night's sleep? This AM/FM clock radio with
digital-synthesized tuner has separate dual antennas that
provide strong reception. A convenient sleep timer shuts off
automatically after a preset length of time, and all the
controls are conveniently located and easy to reach from
bedside.

Pioneer PD-F507 CDFile 25-CD changer
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000JFMH/entertainmentsit
Pioneer's 25-disc changer is a perfect solution to
organizing CDs without shuffling your budget. The PD-F507
offers single-disc, all-disc, and custom playback modes,
plus a host of programming features. You can categorize up to
three groups of discs--by music genre, favorite artists, or
party tunes, for example. We were particularly impressed with
the included optical digital output, which can accommodate an
external digital-to-analog converter.

RCA RP8065 5-CD changer
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000J04T/entertainmentsit
So you're looking for an affordable birthday gift? Be
careful, you might decide to keep this one for yourself.
Though its sound quality is average, this five-disc player
has a built-in headphone jack with a separate volume knob
that's hard to find in a low-price CD player. It features a
remote control and basic functions like skip, repeat, and
play all. You can also load four discs while one is playing.
